Have any of you guys used federal premium nosler ballistictips 130gr out of a 270? If so, what kind of results did you have?Thanks

I've used the 140gr NBT in a .270 I use to have. NBT's have performed great in several different calibers I have reloaded over the years. Accurate and deadly.
I've used a similar bullet, Georgia Arms 130 grain NBT, with great results as far as accuracy and harvesting deer in the woods where all of my shots were less than 150 yards. I can also attest that the load above was very accurate out to 300 yards at the range. I never harvested a deer with this load beyond 200 yards so I cannot speak to the bullet's performance on deer over 200 yards. Overall, my experience was a good one with phenomenal accuracy and many deer harvested.
For deer the NBT is my favorite load.... I use the 140 in my 270 and the 165 in my 30-06... Have been devistating on deer.... I have been shooting NBT on deer in georgia and TN for 15+ years and they open up quick, dump lots of energy in the deer and thus they do not go far......
i have used them with poor results they didnt penetrate a single deer i shot with them, but all deer were recovered. much better bullets out their imo. if you went with the a 150 bt, terminal performance would be better because of the higher sectional density and lower velocity would equal better structural integrity
I love my NBT. Lots of blood, not a lot of pas thru, and it will waste some meat, if it's not in the lungs/heart area in a perfect broadside shot. I have wasted some shoulder meat in some not perfect angle shots. I have never lost a deer to my 30/06 125 BT, 115 BT 25/06 or the 270 BT in 130 grain. I have lost deer to 180gr core lok bullets in 30/06. They don't open quick enough imo. Once I started going to BT in lighter bullets, my recovery efforts got better. Very little tracking, but when i did track, it left a blood trail a blind man could follow. Hope this helped

Blew up deer under 75 yds. Low behind the shoulder shot would shred both shoulders and blood shot the first 8" of backstrap.
Serious carnage with bloodshot damage the size of a basketball or small beach ball.
Shot a 85# hog at 75 yds and never recovered it.
Its a great long range bullet out past 100yds but IMO there are better choices for TN that will hold up and expand at all hunting ranges.

In my experiences, Ballistic Tips, of any kind, seem to "explode" on impact w/thicker skinned game and cause way too much damage. I much prefer boat-tailed soft points for whitetails. I like the BT's for coyotes and other varmints.

never owned or shot the 130g NBT's in 270, but I can say for certain that the 7mm BT's are hands down the best hunting bullets made for my applications (kill deer deader than stink).
Their performance is unbelievably predictable and repeatable time and time again on deer sized game. And accuracy is certainly one of the absolute best of the hunting bullets.
Keep impact velocity under 2800 fps, and it'll perform exactly like a 'premium' hunting bullet with controlled expansion and deep penetration. And they'll even open up nicely all the way down to 1600 fps impact velocity. There aren't many bullets out there which will perform so well under such varying impact velocities.
But push 'em too fast, and you better stick to broadside shots just behind the shoulder. And if you smack the shoulder at 3100fps+ impact velocity, it's not going to be pretty (softball sized wound channels, but only 8" or so of penetration)
I guess I'm up to around 100 kills with the NBT's, never lost a single deer, probably half were bang-flop DRT's.
And in today's economy, it doesn't hurt that you can buy factory 2nd's for around $10/50. (Actually, the last 6 bags of factory 2nds I bought for $7/bag of 50! )
