Anybody know what these are?

Found these in a briar patch in southeast Tennessee. Deer seem to be hammering them. Seem too big to be a muscadine. Anybody got a clue what these things are?

The dead foliage looks to be Mayapple.

Maypops. The slime inside taste like sweetart candies. Quite good. Beautiful flowers in summer as well.

Hmm, those leaves look different than the ones at my place. Are these maypops too, or something different?
