I have started keeping one and just curious how many hours you found out you spend in stand. I spent 77.5 hours last year and 69.5 hours this year with no bow hunting. And up to 88 deer for my career. Just pretty interesting stuff to look back on.
 
Yes I am in process of compiling data from my hunting log. No count on hours but did count every hunt and what I saw and when I saw it.
 
For several years I used Google calendar to document my hunts. A pretty easy to keep up with it on your phone,and got some good info. Unfortunately the last few years I've been lazy and haven't.
 
I've kept one for the past two years. This year I turned it into a blog on Wordpress. Maybe something I do or don't do will help someone else learn.

I've kept detailed data not only of my hunting, but everyone else that hunts the same property, for 27 straight years.

Because I was inordinately lucky this year, I sort of "limited out" very early, hence I didn't hunt anywhere near as much this year as I normally do. Normally, I spend around 100 hours in a treestand per year. This year, I spent 46.26 hours hunting by myself, plus 9.57 hours hunting with my daughter, for a total of 55.83 hours of treestand time.
 
I'm a journal writer�it's a great way for your family, that you don't have yet, to get to know you in your hand-writing. I've kept a hunting journal for the last two years of the temp, wind, baro. pressure and sightings and time, along with some random hunting related thoughts...it's a useful tool. I use a small hand-made pocket-sized leather journal that I get from www.roguejournals.com and after the season I put it up�these things will be around for years.

After loosing my Dad as a teenager, and not getting to know him as a man, I'm all about documenting things so my kids/grandkids will get to know at least a side of me other than Dad, in case something happens before they are adults. In addition, to keep a journal for your own data, tell a story as well for them and if you kill one....tell the details and the story. Also, on the back of your mounts is a perfect blank canvas that is perfect place to tell a story about the hunt and kill, so your kids can go through the hunt with you.

I agree, great idea!
I kept a very detailed journal for many years but have slacked some on my info logged since my boys started hunting. I still reference that info however.

I haven't slacked off on DATA collection, but I used to keep a written journal describing our hunting experiences, and I stopped writing those stories down years ago. Something I wish I hadn't stopped doing.
 
this year I started one and for the first time in 5 years I just quit. so that's another goal for next year I like to have a very detailed one but I slacked off big time on that side of it. I also didn't get to go near as much as usual. I only got in 37 days this year and I usually go around 60 days. just very busy this year.
 
I also keep one for duck hunting and found it to help a lot esp. what wind and lake water level is best for certain blinds. And the mount idea is a very cool one!
