Anybody do any good this weekend?

We went Saturday and actually saw more birds, worked more birds and SHOULD HAVE killed more birds than we have all season.
Cloudy, warm, windy and raining like crazy and they were working great. ?????
Lasted till about dinner or after then the sun kinda popped out and it went dead.

Big front came in that afternoon / night and the excitement and expectation levels were off the charts to say the least.

Went back Sunday and getting in was an "adventure" but not that bad at all.
Right at daylight there were birds everywhere. We could, well they could hear ducks all around us before shooting time. Yes sir it is on! Finally the big "push day" I have heard about all my life I am finally gonna be all up in the middle of one!!!!

We killed one greenhead about 7:30 and then it was over.
Granted we did set several birds on the water but the WNW wind is worthless in our hole.
They were all landing out at 70 & 80 yards. :bash:

After 8:00 I don't think I heard a single shot in the entire bottom. :(
Man carried one guy to the bank at 9:00 so he could get to church and by 10:00 we were all in the truck headed home.
Disappointed, discouraged, disgusted and downright mad.
Typical duck hunting I guess.

We did have a blast Saturday even though it was the worst display of shooting I have ever seen. LOL
Ate good and had fun with great friends so that is what it is all about.
Sure would be nice to kill some ducks every once in a while though.

As always that afternoon all I heard was "tomorrow" is the day. Uh huh, always tomorrow. :smash:

Best part is woodyard got him a couple ducks (for sure) :super: :super: :super:

This was our hero shot for Saturday. LOL


This was the first one on Saturday that we know without a doubt woodyard killed. :)
We had three of these trying to get in the hole while me and another guy were out in the hole, in the boat, picking up a bird.
We BARELY got back in the shooting hole before woodyard done smacked this dude.
Never seen pintails finish, especially on their own, it was crazy.


A few minutes later woodyard blistered this one too. :D


Then Sunday after much excitement and work and prep we did this....

7 boats put in the Hatchie yesterday morning at 70 highway bridge. only 4 ducks killed total.

The trick to success right now is minimal decoy spread. No mojos, 6-8 floaters, and little to no calling

Killed a 4 man limit Saturday in the rains and wind. Sunday we picked up 7 today's we broke ice and never fired a shot.

sat 5, sun 15. we had a decent week last week, double digits most days. Today only 3. seen very few birds. Went scouting this eve, found several thousand near Miss river. Gonna hunt my blind in morning, pull out head to big water tomorrow eve.

Yea seems to be typical now days with low pressure system moving through ducks fly hard all day of front then rest the next..

I didn't see any evidence of a big push that others are talking about although there did seem to be more spoonies and pintails than normal..?

Ducks still not using woods like they are supposed to only killed a few pairs..

Seemed like they flew better later yesterday we stuck it out until 2 and killed 11.

21 today so hopefully its going to start getting better??

We had a West then slight NorthWest wind all morning on Sunday. That was our biggest problem. Well other than very few ducks in the area.

Didn't hunt Saturday or Sunday. Froze our rear ends off Monday for a green head and a gadwall. This was at Tigrett, got into J1 and threw out a dozen or so decoys cause there were none. Heard a bit of shooting and saw quite a few ducks, just wouldn't work that hole. Probably say 50,000 snows flying high and traveling. And we had snow flurries all morning. Pocket was beginning to freeze up when we left about noon.

We tried a mid-day hunt on the back end of the nasty weather on Saturday (my brother was drawn for Shelby Forest). Saw like 5 ducks total, and none showed us a bit of attention, so that strategy failed :). Maybe we should have hunted in the wind and rain...

On Monday (yesterday) I went out with some buddies on the MS River and hunted floodwater in the timber where a friend had been scouting. We ended up seeing lots of ducks, but couldn't quite scratch out a limit. More pintails than I'd ever seen were working into the hole, but the mallards were not as cooperative. With a limit of 1, the pintails don't add up to a full limit of ducks very well... Ended up getting a mixed bag of pintails, mallards, teal, and gadwalls - 22 birds across 5 folks.

Best hunting day I've had in several years, but we froze our butts off. Not much fun driving a boat around on the river when it's 20 degrees!

I'm going to hit it again this coming Friday and Saturday, I guess.

That must have sucked!!

If i did that once a year, the fines would probably be less than all my other expenses combined. I would definitely kill more ducks this way. That will be a story they share for lifetime.

Talk to someone today hunting in your area, and he said last year was way better than this year for them. I did not think it could be worse than last year.

Last year was rough on a duck hunter in my opinion. Not sure what has changed but this has been on of the better years in quite some time for us on the west side, near Lexington. Have some buddies that have a hole near Reelfoot & they've had a pretty bad season. That's why they call it hunting I guess. BTW, I'm sorta new here as far as a member but have actually been on this forum for 5-6 years. Awesome stories and seems like some good folks.

This front definitely pushed some new birds in what i saw. 9 Monday 5 Tuesday but we should've shot a 2 man limit but I cant shoot well.

Yall keep the faith I came home but our group hammered them last 2 days. There is ice around and rivers are falling except for the MS...

I hope so. We're striking out for west KY for a long weekend. More water out there now than any of my group is used to hunting so it's going to be more of a learning experience for us but what the hell.

Got a guy i know with a farm next to the refuge there ive been trying to talk into taking me but he just aint "ate up" with it to go. Maybe i can get him up and at it this weekend
