Antler Mounts

What do y'all do with the antlers off bucks you don't get shoulder mounted? My wife isn't crazy about European mounts as she thinks they're creepy. I have a couple racks that I may just go old school antler/plaque route. Who makes a good one?

I'm not much help because I love euro mounts and we have them laying all over the house so guests can pick them up and I can tell my stories. But, I used to do the skull cap and plaque mounts quite a bit. I'd cut the skull flush and leave a long section down its nose, clean it real good and let it dry. Once dry, I'd stain it to match a walnut board. Then I'd go to a lumber supply store and get a piece of walnut and cut it to the shape I want, round the edges with sandpaper and screw the antlers on. It's really a pretty simple project.

The plaques just sit in the attic now. I'm lucky that my wife likes the euros.

I bought a dremel and started making stuff out of mine.You will need a few more tools.But you will figure out what you need.

Nobs and handles for cabinets
knife handles
Pipes
You will be surprised what all you can come up with when you start doing it.i have made a lot of things out of them this is just a few.

That is a true euro mount where the skull is split below the eye bone to nasal cavity. That is a difficult cut to make too. Europeans have been doing a similar mount minus the stain for centuries. This is one of the hottest trends in decorating.

My wife is the opposite. She hates creepy full skull euros but likes the antler plaques.

I just did a few that were in the freezer and hung them over the couch in the basement.
The wife and kids do not approve. They also think they are creepy.

I will try and snap a picture of skull hookers skull plate bracket. It's a different way to hang a non skull mount, I think they even make a metal bracket that goes over it. I'm not a huge fan but they have their place.
I personally like the leather covered cap on a wood plaque. I don't have any but it's very nostalgic and pretty tasteful. Now that DYI American euros are a PITA to do now on out of state hunts I will likely start doing the leather covered types. Assuming I get lucky and kill one.

Here is the skull hooker bone bracket. You can adjust the bracket up and down and the main bracket swivels as well. I'm pretty positive they make a metal plate to lay over the skull cap.

I have several of my grandfather's Roe buck euro mounts from his time in Germany following the war....that's him in picture smoking the pipe....and in preview I see pic is sideways.... sorry can't figure out to turn it? ....I would actually love to have a roe buck cape to shoulder mount one if his racks.

AT....l love the trophy tree! (Nice mulies) and the skull hooker looks good too! Not sure my wife would go for the trophy tree....but thankfully she's cool with skulls and deer heads on wall.

What you have is epic gold and if I had a roe cape I would gift it to you.

My granddad and I killed two nice muleys this year together and my gift to him is to do a special double pedestal mount.

Thanks....those little Roe Buck horns are very special to me....I have four sets of them..... someday maybe I can hook up with a replacement cape.

Your idea of a double pedestal mount sounds awesome...please post some pics once it's completed....would love to see it.

I only have one euro mount I did a few years ago and the others are just skull caps. My wife actually loves them and wants me to do another euro for decoration. She has 2 that are just the skull cap as decoration on our dining room table.

Love the trophy trees and plan on strictly using one in the future. Just dust ever so often, seems simple. I love mounts, but for what they cost now, I'll never have another mounted.

Thought I was going to get an easy broadside shot when suddenly he turned up the hill coming straight toward me. I was on the ground and busted but touched her off the moment before he broke and ran. In short it was the only shot I had. If you look close you can see the flattened ball through the hole which I recovered in the neck...570 ball ahead of 82 grs black powder at about 30 yards. I thought it would make a neat euro.
