Antler Growth

That will be a local question, as bucks start and end growth at different times in different geographic locations. But for Middle TN, I generally see growth into early to mid-August.

Definitely buck specific. I have pics of some now that are pretty much done. I have others that are still balled up and will put on much more. One of the bucks I shot last year grew until the 2nd week of september.

Seems like they put on more mass, rather than tine length during August at our place. Also Sept 6 has been the "peak" day for shedding the past couple of years.

The mass does not increase. Whatever mass they will have is grown as the beam grows. In essence, the velvet beams don't grow "thicker" over the summer.

I killed one on august 17 many years ago with the front end of my car and i can vouche for that. It was hard on the bases and very pourous on the tips but was thru growing in length and was hardening.......

Is it true that they are bigger right after they shed their velvet and will continue to lose size until they shed their antlers?
