Antelope 2021

Punched the tag on a nice Antelope in WY. Hunt was quick. It was the afternoon of day 1. Spotted a buck with a doe about 600 yards out. I'm not comfortable with a shot that long and we had an irrigation ditch that we could drop down in to remaining out of sight and get within 200-300yrds. I crawled up and saw him. He did not see me. I took my time and squeezed one off. I heard the bullet hit but he acted like I missed. He ran about 75 yards and dropped. I thought maybe he disappeared down a hidden ditch, but he didn't move an inch after that. Shot was about 250yards. Got the hide off and on to ice quickly. Frozen meat made the flight and I'm excited to cook some back strap.

Going to euro mount. Not sure what he'll measure but the guy I was with guessed 70".

Looks like he has some mass, some say that is what really makes up a bucks score. I don't care for the most part as dang near every antelope looks like a clone!

Nice set of horns.
I see several have said "good eating". I suppose that is a matter of opinion. I got a couple antelope back in the '90's, don't care for the meat at all.
Same with caribou. Its okay, but I really don't care for it. Now, elk or moose is delicious. And good old venison is fine. Just my opinion.

I had access to a freezer so I froze it, picked up a cooler at Walmart, duct taped it up, and checked it as a bag (flew SWA).

I didn't like it at all, at least none of the steaks. The burgers, sausage, brats and jerky were all good.

Agree...this has been our experience...get hide off...quarters on ice asap...and the meat is great.....on drive home we drained cooler off and added fresh ice once...meat was wonderful.

I enjoy eating those "Praire Lobsters". Just have to get over the smell of the actual animal. I've noticed elk have a unique smell too but the meat is fantastic.

That's the secret & don't think most get it done quick enough. If you just gut them then haul around in truck bed for a while they aren't fit to eat. Made that mistake once...
