My son (13) has never shown any interest in hunting until yesterday when he said he wants to go deer hunting.

1. Does he need hunter safety before he can go?
2. I didn't buy a licence this year. Can I as a non-licence holder accompany him?
3. Is Prentice Cooper open for the Youth Hunt?

Thanks for the help

1. Anyone over the age of 10 has to be Hunter Safety certified. The Apprentice License (which is a HS exemption) will cover him for one year from date of purchase. It requires the hunter to be accompanied by an adult 21 or older who meets the HS requirements who can tan take control of the hunting weapon at all times. This accompanying requirement applies on all hunting, and not just the Young Sportsman.

He will also need the Type 002 Jr Hunt/Fish/trap license.

2. You do not have to be licensed to accompany him on the Young Sportsman hunt.

3. Prentice Cooper is NOT open for the January youth hunt.
