Went to Home Depot during lunch. Found a "cocktail" tree in both apple and pear. The apple tree produced five different flavors and the pear three. I may have to buy two more trees. I thought I was done but maybe not yet. My only concern is keeping the apple trees trimmed without trimming one of the 5 grafs.
 
I was in franklin. The one behind the outback steak house in Franklin. I will probably be at the Spring Hill one some time this weekend. I will check to see if they have them.

I gave them a try. I planted them this weekend and will hope for the best. All my trees are in and I am done planting trees for the year.

My only concern with the cocktail trees is with the apple. As much as you have to keep them pruned it will be a trick in not pruning one of the grafs that needs to stay.
 
richmanbarbeque, I dont think the only problem you will have with a cocktail tree is keeping it pruned. We have a cocktail tree that we planted about 8 years ago. It has grown up just fine and bloomed out perfectly. The problem is that the tree blooms waaay too early. It must be a tree from further south that does not have the cold temps that we have here in Tennessee. Ours blooms in February or early march. And I'm sure you know, we always have a cold freeze after that. Last year was the first year that it actually produced fruit.

I dont know all the ins-and-outs to this stuff and breeds of trees and stuff like that, just thought I would throw that out there to give you kind of a heads up from my experience with them. I hope yours does better and blooms later than ours, but good luck!
 
thanks for the info. Didn't even think of that. I guess I have around four trees that I will have to worry about blooming to early. Add peaches to the list. My only hope is where they were planted has a little buffer from the elements, may not matter though. I will keep my fingers crossed.
 
BowGuy84, A few posts down I have a pic of my trees in cages. I can post it again or pm you if you want. I'll bring it to the top for you.
