Before this forum, I already knew how to read topo and could generally use it to find some decent areas...mostly flats and saddles. But I've learned a ton on here already just from topo discussions, so thanks to all you experts! Going to hunt this section tomorrow afternoon with a buddy. I've hunted it before around that big saddle near the lower left corner, and there were some decent rubs but never saw anything. What do y'all think of these two spots for a SSW wind? Seems like it would put me on the leeward side at some pinch points. Other areas you'd scout?

Yeah, I'm guessing others have already figured that spot out if it's as good in boots as it looks on a screen, but it's the middle of the week at least.

Public land I assume?

I like the right stand too, but another spot that jumps out to me is just below the # 937 on the lower right side of the map. I don't know if that is a road or river on the right side of the map, but BSK used to talk about secondary points and benches a lot. To me that area looks like a secondary point and there is a bench above some (what looks to be) very steep terrain below. My guess is if they come through there they will use that bench and less steep terrain to come up the hill.
Lots of saddles and I like hunting saddles, so I'd probably hunt them, but if you want to check somewhere else, I'd look there.

Thanks bonecollector, that makes sense. I've been close to that little bench to an area not shown on this map. ..and quit scouting due to it being quite thick with few hardwoods, but doesn't mean they don't go thru there. I'll check it out. Course if I shoot a deer and it goes down toward the lake. ..that'll be a fun evening :)

And yes, public

Ok so where is the best place to get topo maps online? This will all be new to me. Thanks

I use mytopo a lot as well. This was actually from Google Earth, I figured out how to get the topography on it, but it was complicated and you can do basically the same thing with mytopo.
