Appreciate all the replies on the scope thread.

Looking at Nikon 223 scope.

I have an AR to play around with but I don't want to break the bank.

So ideas if possible on decent items of below within price range.

Scope $150-200
Laser $100-200
Flashlight Light under $100
Red dot around $100
Rings, flashlight mounts etc....

Just starting to figure this out and research it all so any suggestions are appreciated....

What else might I need????
 
Before I bought any lasers, tazers, phazers, and all them azers, I would get a quality trigger and a set of good backup sights. Most of that other stuff just weighs your gun down, and gets in the way. A good lower powered scope and a set of backup sights should be all of the aiming equipment needed. I personally don't like a weapon mounted light, but I can see some cases where it might be handy. I have a buddy that goes out west to FrontSite training academy close to Vegas. A couple years ago he took an advanced rifle course. He and many others brought their fully decked out ARs, with all the gadgets and gizmos. By the time the class was over, they had pulled all of that crap off, and were shooting low powered scopes and irons, without anything else on the gun. The instructors kept putting them in situations that all of the extra gear on the gun got in the way, or made them more vulnerable to return fire(if there was any).
 
You need a scope/rings or red dot and not a combination of all the silly add on azers to junk up the gun. like suggested above a good trigger is some of the best money you will spend on it.
 
I wouldn't get too carried away throwing a bunch of weight on your gun that will serve little to no purpose in practical application. A flashlight would be OK, but I'd leave the laser to the airsoft types. I'll second the notion to buy the best trigger you can afford, starting with an ALG Defense all the way up to one of the Geissele offerings.

If you get a set of back-up irons to complement your 1-whatever power scope, you'll need a QD scope mount or you're wasting your money. Those don't come cheap.

What role is the rifle going to be used for? Base your accessories off of primary purpose of the rifle. Reliability is a must before all others plus a good trigger.
 
Don't forget the espresso maker. :grin: Seriously though, flashlights and lasers show the bad guy where you are coming from and where to aim before you even know where he is. Unless you are on a SWAT team, you don't need that stuff. Turn on the light switch. If you insist, however, I would recommend a strobe flashlight for disorienting effects. As far as optics, I use a BSA Sweet 223, an angle mount on the handguard and a Truglo red dot. Good 3 gun set up. I think I have less than $225 in all 3. I have since taken the bipod off to help with weight.
