Another savage question

The gas relief vent hole on a savage Mlii. Does gas exit out of this every time it's fired?

Unless I'm thinking of the wrong hole, no. Only in a failure

Most all Savage rifle actions have that hole. So does the Rem 700 rifle action

This is what I was thinking too. Had some smoke coming out of the holes after a shot the other day. Only noticed it once.

Primer brand plays a part in leakage. Federal 209a primers are straight and can leak a little. I recommend Winchester primers. They have a step in their case that helps them to seal.
