Why is it legal to not wear orange on your own land?Guessing some law maker doesn like orange?

Please hold off on "its my land and I can do what I want to" posts,You cant legally do many things on your own land,like kill 6 bucks a day or run a meth lab.

Just seems like a good way to keep an accidental death from happening,and deer dont care about orange.
 
i know it's perfectly legal for me to not wear it on our place but there are other people hunting around us and you never know when a trespasser is around. i always wear orange.
 
Makes it easier to catch trespassers.

There should never be any accidental shootings regardless if the person shot is or isn't wearing orange. I don't believe that a human could ever be mistaken for a game animal by a "Hunter" and if you can't positively identify what you are shooting at, DON'T SHOOT.

but that blob of orange seen past the deer you are shooting at could prevent a serious accident. not necessarily shooting directly at the non-orange wearing hunter but at a deer that is between them.

Good point.
I have always been taught to make sure of your backstop and don't depend on the orange. Always be aware of what is down range. You are the one responsible when you pull the trigger.
 
I dont where it when I hunt my land and haven't in years. I do keep my vest in my pack though and put it on if I walk around. And most trespassers poachers or thieves don't usually wear orange or at least the ones I have seen or had run ins with dont. And most of them obviously don't care what the backstop behind what there shooting at is..
 
No since in not wearing it. Never know where a scum bag tresspasser will be or what he'll shoot at. No since in letting it be at you just because its legal not to wear it.
 
Here is the Tennessee Code Annotated 70-4-124 that deals with Blaze Orange:

70-4-124. Wearing daylight fluorescent orange color while hunting big game required -- Penalty.

(a) Every person hunting big game except turkey during the gun hunts proclaimed by the commission shall wear on the upper portion of the body and head outer garments of daylight fluorescent orange color of not less than five hundred square inches (500 sq. in.) and visible from the front and back.

(b) "Daylight fluorescent orange color" means having a dominant wave length between five hundred ninety-five thousandths (0.595) and six hundred five thousandths (0.605) nanometers, excitation purity of not less than eighty-five percent (85%) and a luminance factor of not less than forty percent (40%).

(c) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

(d) This section does not apply to a person hunting on that person's own property.
 
One of the problems with this law is that it only requires "Big Game Hunters" to wear the orange. Since small game seasons are open at the same time in the same areas, and these hunters are not required to wear orange, a hunter that depends on an orange warning to alert them to the presence of another hunter in the area is not a safe hunter.
 
Me too, why take that chance with your life, even if you don't like it think about your family if you were to get shot while not wearing it on your family farm, by say your Grandfather who might not see as well as he use to.

small game hunters should during deer season
 
it is like this- everyone knows it is safer to wear orange. no doubt. if a hunters chooses not to, it is his own decision. its about freedom. fat people eat fast food, knowing that is a dangerous decision. Distance runners run during the heat of 100 degree day, knowing it is a dangerous. In my book, freedom trumps safety everyday of the week.
 
The one time Ive been shot at while deer hunting I was wearing full blaze orange, vest and hat.Im sure that was on purpose. The bullet hit about 10 feet in front of me. I dont even wear it now except in rare instances where I might put on a blaze orange hat because thats what I find first, on my own land of course. I dont know how to explain it, but it just honestly makes me feel like a idiot wearing it. I mean are hunters really so dumb that we have to wear orange to keep from shooting each other? I guess yes in some cases.

I had a guy watch me through a scope one time and I was wearing orange. Believe me it was uneasy feeling and I have no doubt if I wouldn't have had orange on he wouldn't have thrown his gun up to watch me... I was in a treestand and he walked up on me...
 
I never wear orange on my property except if I am hunting near one of the property lines. If I had a smaller property with a few neighbors that hunted, then I would probably wear it more.
