Another newby question

I had a chance to be on my lease this evening. I tried to roost a gobbler and i didnt. However I did hear several turkey fly up around 715. Question is that enough to set up around at sun up? Havent been hearing msny gobbles the last few times Ive hunted so I dont think it will hurt

I try and figure out where they will fly down. Usually they will be within a hundred yards of where they "flew up". I'd sit near there for sure.

My friend John says a couple of things. A) Don't call until you can see the eye of your decoy (if you have one). B) Patience! C) Only call ONCE when you think they are on the roost. If they gobble, they know where you are so sit tight until you hear them on the ground coming to you.

I suck at turkey hunting, but that is in fact some good advice from a veteran.

If you.know where they are likely to go once they come off the roost (field, ridge, etc.) I would try to get on that side of them.

But I would also be ready to move just in case the gobbler isn't roosted right with them. If he gobbles in the morning and isn't with them try to get between them.

Note that the woods are getting crunchy so it may be tough getting close.

Its a constant game of cat and mouse. They never do what you think they will. I will agree on the patience part. Unfortunately i'm not always the best at it.
