Another Morel question

I first read about morels on this site years ago. I went out and gathered what I thought I was suppose to, but when I got home, I got skerrt!!!

I got a picture of something I just found right outside my backdoor, not five steps from the patio.....
Is this a true morel? I got two...one lil one and this bigger one.

Should I leave them to reseed for next year? Is there any thing special I need to do to ensure they come back next year?

this is the lil one, as you can see it is just a tad bigger than a maple tree seed.

Cut it open. If it's hollow, it's a morel. I think mushrooms are pretty good at reseeding themselves but I'm no expert. How cool would it be to have morels 5 steps away!

I found a third one when I went back to them the next day.
I could tell they were past their prime, so I left them to reseed.
The third one, had been bumped and was off the base laying on the ground. I picked it up, it was hollow inside.

I remember how they came to grow there now!!! :)
I had tossed the first ones I had ever picked out in that flower bed years ago. They had to have seeded themselves. :)

fried mushrooms are awesome.

We have a burger joint here in town that fries them up and they will melt in your mouth. But the ones they do are not the morels.

So why go pick something like that instead of buying mushrooms at the grocery store,especially if there is a chance you could get it wrong and kill yourself?

I don't get it. LOL Besides,they are just ugly.

Yes those are dry land fish. Sasquatch, Ill tell you right now there aint a better tasting thing out there than dry land fish, rather have them than deer, turkey, or any game animal.

Fried mushrooms are very wonderful. If the place you speak of does not use morels what does it have to do with morels?

Are you for real? What do they taste like?

I just can't imagine that they would taste better than a deep fried backstrap on a biscuit.

Yes I am for real. I love em. I cant describe the taste. Its rich and deep like a dark meat kinda. Called dry land fish because when you halve them down the midle they kind of resemble a fish. Some also say because they taste like fish but I dont get the fishy taste.

He's right they are awesome..Just like hunting too, there is something about gathering our own food that makes it taste better than going to a grocery store.

the reason yall think they taste so good is because the time you pick enough to amount to anything your so hungry anything taste good. :grin: they are perty good, but the only time i find em is when im out turkey huntin not shroom huntin.
