Ok,so the oldest tree on my place has been in the ground for one year now,they look great,I keep the weeds/grass out,water and fert them,but IF I see fruit this year,I really dont expect to much.Not enough to draw many deer.SO.....Providing we get decent rain,should I really push em with fertilizer,add Miracle Grow when I water them?And not really worry about nocking off a few pears here and there?Any Ideas,thoughts?Ill starty sraying them soon,they have tree tubes,mulch,and are fenced off from the deer.Anything else?Im not 17 anymore,I wont some fruit on em as fast as possible,but not worried about this years small,if any crop.
 
I am in the same boat...My old college roommate tells me when they are 1st year or so, to cut off fruit if there are only a few. that will put energy back into the growth. Then next years yield will be dramatically increased... I dont know, he majored in that.
 
I don't worry about it. Most of the trees I have I wouldn't know if it is their first fruit or not. Taken care of them with whatever way you know how seems like the best choice. Keep doing what your doing. I bet you'll have a good amount of fruit this year. Im more concerned on how to dehydrate all the extra fruit.

You really should pinch off any fruit on young trees. It will delay them. They put more energy into producing fruit than growing. A one year in the ground plant just wont be sturdy enough to support much fruit at all. Im having Dad pinch blooms on an Ark Black he sent me some pics of this week. Now Im just like yall, I like seeing fruit, so yeah last year I let a single Gala fruit early, in its first year in ground, and the dang thing didnt hardly grow an inch all growing season. Produced about 10 apples, I sampled 2 and they were awesome but I still dont think it was worth delaying that tree like that.
 
Is it better to pinch the blooms off or wait and see if it actually sets the fruit before pinching them off? I planted 15 different varieties of apples from Century Farm Orchard last fall. All look great and 2 of the 15 have some blooms.
