Who needs sleep? Thats what i kept telling my self all weekend! I start out sat fishing my fall fish off tournament on old hickory lake! Last one of the year! Boy was it tough, but managed to finish 3rd. That story is for another time!
So i wake up sunday morning, going on 3 hrs of sleep. I got in the stand and i felt like a zombie. It was very hard to stay awake, on top of that; it was windy and chilli. I seen 2 does about 830 and that was all the deer i seen.
I decided to hunt till 11 bc of the cool temps and all the sign that was showing up. At 1030 squirrels were going crazy off in the distance and popped a yote! He started running towards me! I shot him running at 15 yards! Wow what a shot! He dies right under the stand. I will post a pic.
Well at 11 i got down and was going to go home and take a nap; but that didnt happen. I got caught up in scouting. Next thing i know it is 400. So i run home and get my wife and we head for the woods!
I got her in her stand and i settled in mine at 504. First time i set in this stand in the afternoon. Sun was beating down on me! Wow it was hot! It fianlly goes down behing some trees. 600 i look down a logging road and see some legs, 60 yards away. Im thinking its propbably a doe or another small buck.
The deer clears some trees and i can see that it was a buck, i good buck! Man did my heart start pounding! I kept trying to breath right and stay calm, but i can feel it about to beat out of my chest!
The buck comes out in the open at 15 yards right at me. This is all on my left side. Me being left handed, i have to turn around. The deer steps behind a tree and i draw back and stand up at the same time!
Im at full draw and he starts to walk off down the hill. I had one opening! I let it go. The buck hit the ground! Spine shot, dang! Shot high! At this point he was in a clear lane and i shot him again with a follow up shot!
Your talking the happiest i have been for killing a deer! This quest for a wall hanger with a bow has been a long journey! Check that one off! I am having the best year hunting i have ever had. Only thing that is on my goals for the year, is for my little brother to kill his first deer! I am truley blessed! Thanks for letting me share my journey!
