Another antlerless Deer question

Back several years ago i think it was 3 days left of deer season.I shot a nice 8 pointer in a field one afternoon.He ran across a very grown up field could not find any blood.So i called my wife to help me look for it.We was walking through the field and she walked up on a deer.She said i thought you said you shot a buck i said i did she says there's a deer over here but it doesn't have a rack on it.So i walked over to were she was and looked at it's head and it looked liked it had just shed his rack.Got to looking around and found both sides of his rack.Checked him in as a buck.But could i have checked him in as a doe?
