Is there any way to age a deer other than his jawbone?

Is there any kind of test that can be done?

My taxidermist forgot to save a jawbone on a deer I believed to be at least 6.5, but I would have liked to have known for sure. I went by Ellington today and they said that once a deer gets past 4.5 that a lot of factors come into play and in most cases it is just a guess. Any advice would be great! Thanks
 
It's partly my fault. It was after he wrote up the ticket and we were looking at deer he had in; I then remembered to ask him to save it. I meant to call him yesterday to remind him but got caught up in work. So I'm to blame too. He does too good of work to be mad at him over this, and I'm not.

I just want to know if there is any other means to age them. According to the guys at Ellington it would just be a guess since the deer was older than 4.5, is that true?
 
I am not aware of any other way to age without the teeth, other than estimates based on figure.
 
The two most common methods of aging involve the teeth (Severinghaus toothwear method and cementum annuli). Other than that, you're down to field-judging age based on body conformation.

No methods that don't require teeth?

All I really have left is the rack with skull piece, cape of course, and I think I could get some bone from the guy quartering him out.
