And just like that, my season is over. It's been a great one with lots of firsts. I was blessed to take two bucks and two does.
My firsts this year:
1st saddle hunt (I'm sold)
1st archery kill (also sold, loved it. Was the same hunt as the 1st saddle hunt)
1st successful spot and stalk
1st Rifle kill from a saddle (a saddle works well for both)
1st time calling a buck in to a doe in estrous bleat
Also got my biggest buck so far, a nice 8-point, that will make a great euro mount.
And I'm sure there are more. I'm really trying to learn a lot and become a better hunter. I'm also learning to enjoy the hunt as much as the kill. In the past I've been so focused on making sure I got a deer that I was afraid to take risks or try new things. Not any more. Those risks have paid off well this year. In fact both bucks came on hunts where I went in not expecting much at all.
By the way, this doe field dressed at 85 lbs. Shot her with my TC Venture 7mm-08 with Nosler 140 gr E-tips. She ran maybe 15 yards and piled up.
