I am working on a project that I have been wanting to do for a few years and it got me going thru a ton of pics that I have taken since I bought my property. I have taken over 1200 pictures mostly of my property and the cabin and it blows my mind the work that has been put in. The interesting part is how the land changes with time. A few years ago I had a dozer guy do a bunch of clearing. I wanted to start with a fresh landscape and it has changed from dirt to what I imagined it could be. I was just Looking at my tree plot pics with it cleared out and bare dirt, I am sure a few thought I was crazy. Looking at it now with a ton of trees planted and now trees that are producing fruit, I guess it wasn't crazy.

My point is, January is a GREAT time to get out of the house, onto your property and start visualizing what your property could look like. The work you do today you will be so glad you did. Like the saying goes "the best time to plant a tree was yesterday". Football Hunter is as crazy as I am when it comes to hard work on his place. The last time I was over there I was blown away on how good it looked. I know it will be a matter of time when he can sit back and enjoy the fruits of all the hard work and hopefully have pictures of a big ol buck to show for it.

I know you guys have some nice places,I am all about planting fruit trees Grafting different variety's,and trying to get a hold of some old heirloom variety's.To keep them around ,if for no other reason. :D
 
Dude, you stay busier than a 3 legged cat in a litter box.....and your property is evidence of it.

It is sure amazing. I always forget how far everything has came until I look at old pictures or old data on how many deer I was seeing I was first. Its great to look back sometimes, even its just 5 years.
 
I agree...currently I am discouraged with my property bc the front is showing limited deer usage. I think I can change that with some habitat improvment and usage changes during the season.

The last hunt I had there was our best yet. I saw 3 bucks all over 2.5, two were killable, and the 3rd got in thick cover too quick. The back half of the property has come a long ways. Now just working on the front.
 
I know what you mean! I bought my place a little over 3 years ago and a majority of it was fresh clearcut with trash everywhere. I have been working on it slowly but surely and am definately seeing the benefits.

Maybe one day after the season is over I will be able to make out there and check out your place.
 
There is no better pride than in what you work for. Glad it has worked out for you. So many people now days have no clue what it is like to work for something.

I will post a slew of pics after season ends. I am working on a website that will catalog a lot of the work I have done along with a way to hopefully help guys in my current situation, Small property owners. I have secured a website name of "small property adventures" and will hopefully in the first quarter of the year release more info so everyone can view. I DEFINATELY do not know everything but I learn from my mistakes and from other people.
 
With all of the timber cutting we've been doing of late, a person who had hunted on my place just three years ago would hardly recognize the property now.

Although it seems like changes will take forever to grow to fruition, it happens faster than you think. I now have clear-cuts that have grown back to open-understory forests.

The same is true of data collection. At first, you question why you are collecting all this information, as it will take years for the data to be meaningful. I went through that thought process at first, but that was 25 hunting seasons ago...
 
Time flys, I just wish I was already working on my own property! Congrats to you guys who are!!
