Got to a place in public land that I haven't even looked at since last year. With today's wind it knocks most of my spots out except for two. One is a bow only stand and I felt like breaking the rifle out for a change. So I get out here, and find a the tree and get up about 15 feet. Well I looked up and the top of the tree is gone, along with all the other climbable trees in the area. I really didn't feel like packing everything up, so I am not just using the top of my stand at the base of the tree. I don't really know if I'm expecting to see anything this morning, but kind of chose this spot because I can hunt three fields at once. Anything I see is gonna be a long shot but I'm ready for that. I just hope that the monster that's on this piece of property shows himself today.
 
You'll be fine. It could be worse. You could be chasing them through the woods wearing thin moccasins and throwing a spear. I bet a few engines would "make trade" with you. Lol. Be safe.
 
Unprepared hunts can still end up turning out for the best. As long as you can see where the deer are, hunting on the ground is fine.

I understand that to the fullest catman. The problem I have is when hunting from the ground I don't tend to sit still. I used to all the time but the past few years I've been really bad about getting up and walking a few yards to check things out. This was mainly a sort of scout/hunt anyways. In my normal spot here, I usually see quite a few does, but I haven't been seeing bucks. Even during the peak breeding here a few weeks ago I still didn't see bucks. Today I was kinda hoping to see a few different deer doing different things so I could get a grasp on where the bucks were hiding. I can see 300+ yards in almost every direction. Still no deer though. Which could be why I quit hunting here last year lol
