Sunday was the first step preparing for all day sits.Have to slowly work up to it.Got locked down at 5:45am.4 1/2 hrs later the rains came and i headed to the camper.Back in the stand at 2pm and hunted till dark.Food and a good book help with the long period between deer sightings.Needed lots of food sunday.Total deer seen.ZERO!
Hunting a new farm with only 2 fence rows and maybe 2 acres of woods in the corner is tough.Bean and corn fields all around.
What really makes it tough is i have 2 other farms available to hunt that have many more deer on them.
Hard to sit on this fence row.But you got to do what you got to do.
I'll start those alldayers Nov.5th.Should be about right.
For guys wondering about the rut and others reporting seeing bucks chasing.Me and friends that hunted this weekend didnt see

It will be nteresting to see how luck compares from his all dayers to my couple hours here and there. They have that all-day mentality in a lot of places in Canada. Last one I hunted, when they told me that, I said, "Okay, I'll start my day at 1 p.m."

I always have off the whole rifle season of Ky and opening weekend i will sit all day. Usually after a few days of it ill take a break so i dont get burnt out but still hunt til 10 and am usually back by 130. during the rut i hate thinking what might be going on when im not in the stand.

Honestly the only time i have sat all day is at PI Buck hunt. I sat the first day til noon and never saw a deer with my buddies texting me every few minutes about the bucks they were seeing. I moved about 200 yards and then sat there til dark and all day the next 2 days. it really wasnt that hard there. LOL

I have sat 1 all day hunt so far this year. If I am on a trip most of my days are all dayers unless I am not seeing anything and need to relocate. My Summit sleeps just fine in the mid afternoon.

I don't get near as much time to hunt as I'd like so the all day sits are more tolerable for me. Sometimes I come out for an hour or 2 but that's about it once the bucks decide to stay on their feet all day. When I get tired I give it a break and pack it in, but I definitely log some looooong hours once the rut is on.

Close top home?
Home is 70 miles away.
Too easy to get down if your close to home.
Too easy to find other things to do.
Thats why i dont use a ladder stand.Too easy to climb down and go to the truck.
Hunting the bigger bucks is not easy.
When there is nothing else to do.Why not hunt?
If your happy shooting does close to home.More power to you.
If your happy shooting young bucks.Happy for you.
Last year i killed a good buck on the first of a planned 5 days of all dayers.
Year before it was on day 4.
Year before it was day 3.
You got to be there when the odds swing alittle in your favor.
A few hours in the morning and a few in the evening might prove to be all thats needed.But for me i'm going to be there when the times right,or wrong sometimes.

For me its all a mental thing.Think about it.Plan on it.Then do it.

I've found that the more confident I am in the location I am hunting, the more likely I am to make an all day stand (easy concept, right?)

Last year bow hunting Illinois you could not run me out of the stand!

Don't forget about getting blood clots in your legs. Be sure to stand several times for at least 10 minutes throughout the day.

When I was a boy my neighbors dad dropped dead of a pulmonary embolism while on stand for a long sit.

Did they also say I did not hunt all day and was done by 8:00 the second day? Hunted till about 10 the first day and did not hunt that afternoon at all. I wasn't talking about Dore. Nice group up there but they had no problem with me not hunting all day. In fact, very few of us did. That was last hunt in Sask. After that, it was all MB and all with a bow.

I havwe hunted very few stands that I thouoght were all day stands. In the Midwest, during the rut, I owuld hunt all day but usually from three different stands, moving as the patterns did.

I figure, the longer I am in one stand, the more scent I have dispersed and the more my chances drop on mature bucks. Where I hunt now, I have definite morning and afternoon stands but as a general rule, don't hunt morning and afternoon the same day. Just no need to since I am just hunting for the fun of it.

I've gotten to the point in life where even knowledge of a big buck in the area won't keep me in a tree. It just doesn't mean that much to me. I now hunt more to "have hunted" than to kill any particular animal.

They can also reduce motivation. In the 20+ years I've been playing with trail-cams on my place, and the last 13 years running detailed camera censuses all deer season, I've never gotten a picture of a buck older than 2 1/2 moving between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM. Not once. We just don't see the mid-day movement of older bucks other areas see (and I have seen properties that have a destinct mid-day peak).

i think way to go for good buck. but the mountains i hunt i see as many deer in middle of day as anytime. i like to kinda save all day hunts for nov. it definatly takes its toll on you. ihave sit from sunup and see no deer all day to kill buck at last light. be carefull becouse soon as big boy knows your there hes nightime. goodluck

I agree with BSK...4 hours is it for me usually. I also don't get so tired by the 3rd day or so if I pace myself...and my attention stays on high alert this way.

I have a friend that is an all dayer and honestly it has never worked for him and about Tuesday after opening day he is sleeping in and going out in the evening only...Plus, there is just so much other fun stuff to do at deer camp!

We are in the same scenerio as far as timing of pictures. We have never (off the top of my head) photographed a buck in that same time period. Typically during November, I will take a lunch with the full intention of sitting all day. For me, it all depends on the deer movement. If I am seeing deer, I'm having a blast. If I haven't seen a deer all morning, usually I wanna go back and watch some football during the midday. If the weather is right and I know I'm in an good spot and I am seeing deer, I will sit there all day. Last year, I did this, saw 2 does at daylight and saw nothing the rest of the day...absolutely miserable. Though I did this again in a different spot and saw deer all day. That WAS worth it. Several factors must apply before I sit all day. No sense in being miserable.

Depends on the day,cold cloudy day,while seeing a few deer,that will keep me on stand.Bright sunny days ,I get out after the woods are fully lit by the sun,just doesnt seem like deer will move much then.

I've gotten to the point in life where even knowledge of a big buck in the area won't keep me in a tree. It just doesn't mean that much to me. I now hunt more to "have hunted" than to kill any particular animal.

There you have it. This morning I saw tow bucks, one my old buddy and a shooter and one little four. I also saw three does that stayed out of range. But I was home by 10:00.

I also do it if I have walked so far into somewhere that I wouldnt be able to get out and relax and be able to make it back in somewhere for the evening on time.
