Alabama WMA?

Hey guys just curious if any of you guys hunt Alabama. I've heard from several people that their rut doesn't start till January. My dad just recently started working down there in Gadsden, AL and I thought about maybe going down there later in the year when TN's ruts over and giving it a try. I obviously have no connection to private land down there so I was just curious if any of you guys have hunted some WMA's down there or know which one's worth giving a shot. Thanks guy.

Lived there for 8 years. Hunted mostly middle Alabama around Bham.

They do have a later rut than we do in the Southern part of the state. For the most part the Northern part of the state pretty much follows our rut.

I still go back to Alabama every year and hunt Hollins WMA in Clay County which is not too far South from you. I usually go during the first two weeks of January and they will be chasing then. Usually kill one then.

Black Warrior WMA is very close. Has a good concentration of both Deer and Wild boar. Best bang for your buck around there.

You also have the Bankhead National Forest. Both combined are huge.

Like I said earlier don't expect Northern Alabama to have a really late rut. They follow our rut for all practical purposes.

How's the hunting pressure on Hollins? When does their rifle open?

You can buy a small game lic for $90 and hunt boar year round on Bankhead and on the WMA except on deer hunts .

I think their NON resident is about the same as what TN and KY charges their Non resident hunters .

Bankhead is huge and I see several 160 inch deer taken from there every year

I hunt South Alabama...Washington County. Our Rut isn't until extremely late Jan into the first week of so of February.

Bankhead rut is all but over. They rut in early November.

Deer population is very low much like east tn.

Skyline at new years can be good. The rut eat of gasden is right now.

Freedom hills will be really good around January 10th.

How,are the hogs on Bankhead? I've talked to so,e pretty knowledgeable people,that have given me some good leads on the WMA zone A but would like to spread ,y wings some year round and hunt Bankhead.

Non-resident license $301 plus WMA permit or 10-day for $186 plus permit. Too much....

My Dad has some property in Jackson County (Northern Alabama). Despite what others have said the deer there don't rut until around Christmas time. Its only an hour and a half away - but the deer act completely different. The locals will tell you the same thing.

Since I tagged out from my lease in Tennessee, I was in Bankhead today. Hunted down by Borden Creek which I accessed from the trail that runs back from McLemore Cemetery off Hwy 33. Did not see any hogs but there was plenty of tracks in the road. Actually more hog sign than deer. From what I heard the Borden Creek area is a popular spot for pig but take that for what its worth - I'm not a hog hunter.

The lease I'm on here the Rut is around mid December

Go down toward Montgomery or over toward Pickins and its first to mid January.

Check out Little River WMA in DeKalb County or a little farther away (Skyline) James Martin WMA in Jackson, County -Scottsboro area.
