I've got the chance to go hunt down in Alabama and I was just wondering if anyone on here has any info on what its going to be like this time of year. As in is the rut full swing or on the down hill side etc. Any info would be great thanks!

I think it depends on where you're hunting. The further south, the later the rut. I'm going to Clarke Co. this weekend and the rut should be just starting strong in lower AL I think it's very similar to TN in the Northern areas.

ALdeer. com has some good info you can read.

Not necessarily. Alabama stocked its herd from deep South AL I believe so all throughout the state the rut varies greatly. But in essence lower AL has a later rut into Jan but some parts of Northern AL also have a late rut.

Check out AL wildlife site, they recently wrote a article about their rut timing.

A few areas such as where I live and Bankhead have November ruts. Where I live mirrors my place in Wayne co with a late November first 10 days of December rut.

Cross the river and other than nw Colbert co, the entire rest of the state is pretty much January. A few pockets have a late December rut.

Is probably the most screwed up state as far as rut you'll ever see.

Extreme south bama is late January into February.

I have a friend who hunts down around Montgomery and he says that in over 20 years he has never seen a strong rut. Not even one buck chasing a doe - ever. He hunts through the end of January. Apparently the main chasing happens after season closes on Jan 31 that far south.

Wish I could find a good place to hunt alabama as a diy hunt...

If you like to bow hunt, you have more options that you could hunt in a lifetime. Some are QDM managed and have very, very little pressure.

For January, I'd look at Barbour WMA and Freedom Hills WMA. They both have gun hunts scattered around January but you can bow hunt the other days. Both have some incredible bucks running around and both have a mid to late Janauary rut. Freedom Hills is only 3-3.5 hours south of Nashville. 40k acres. Lots of hardwoods.

Place I hunt in Madison County is usually in January, but peaked end of December this year. All target bucks where killed that week.

Alabama has some very large deer...go hunt.
