I've told folks for years that my Marlin 39A with CB longs is quieter than most air rifles. Today I got a chance to use a sound meter that Radio Shack sells to test it. I set up the sound meter and fired a couple of air rifles and my Marlin at 6 feet away from the meter and wrote down the db reading for all of them.

Marlin 39 with CB long ammo: 92db
Marlin 39 with high velocity lr ammo: 108db
RWS 34 .177 air rifle: 96db
Beeman HW-30 .177 air rifle: 91db
Crosman Titan .22 air rifle: 94db

So the Marlin with CB's was quieter than two of the airguns and just barely louder than the weaker one. Yes, I have better things to do with my time, I just didn't feel like doing them today.

Got any Sub Sonics around???

From my 39A there still quieter than my air rifles, and about the same foma couple shorter barrel 22's.
