Two days ago my hunting buddy and I walked all over my 300 acre farm. We moved and put up stands including my giant 2 man dual rail ladder. We pruned with one of those manual pole saws, dragged limbs and did all sorts of other work. Aside from the permethrin not working so well and itching all over from tick bites I am dead on my feet.

Back in the day I scouted and worked my tail off all summer long and just couldn't wait to get into the woods on opening day. It was an obsession. Now, I let the cameras do the scouting work for me and I'm turning into the old codgers I used to make fun of sitting in a shoot house with power and heat. I know alot of people sell of their lock ons and climbing sticks for ladder stands at some point. My arthritis has almost made it where a narrow ladder stand is a no-go. This truly sucks.

What do I have to look forward to.? I know the old axiom, "You are only as young as you feel." well, I feel like I'm falling apart. Any good ideas on mitigating some of this misery? I never want to give up hunting. My buddy said if he didn't have my farm to hunt he'd probably only go once or twice a year. Screw that.

Do you still work and are you as active the rest of the year as you used to be? If you wait until just before deer season to get up and get going that may contribute to being so tired hanging stands, etc.??? Age will slow you down. It has me although injuries have a lot to do with that. I think it's natural to lose some of the drive you once had. One thing you have going for you is that you own your hunting land. You can go at will... or not. If you pay to hunt you debate on the worth in only going a couple of times or worse yet, not paying and giving up deer hunting altogether.

If you have younger folks in your family that like to hunt then have them do the set up process for you.

Makes me think of Grant Woods of Growing Deer TV. He has all the interns do all the work for him to improve the habitat and hunting according to his plans/goals.

I'm it in my extended or immediate family. I ain't exactly asking for a bunch of other hunters to join me. My problem is injuries. I think the key is start much sooner pruning with POWER equipment and using my tractor more.

Honestly if your not really old then i would get tested for like disease.not saying that is the cause. But trust me i have lime.Hopefully i have it wooped gotta go back for blood work. But im almost 40 and some days feel like im 80. My joint's hurt all the time.My leg's hurt most of the time. Some day's i feel ok then other's i feel bad. I think it would be worth a test.Cause the longer you have it the harder it is to get rid of.I have been on antibiotics for 9 month's.I'm finally done with them. But i still have to go back to the doctors for test's.

One thing that pulls the "want-to" right out of you is low testosterone levels. I'm going to work on that this week and see if that helps. Fifty bucks per month. Ouch.

I have a big time birthday coming up and after about ten surgeries and a heart attack, I was noticing I let some stuff fall by the wayside. I really like hunting. I would stretch what you did over a month or so. Anything outside is better than sitting at a terminal.

Staying healthy and active as we age is definitely a challenge...no doubt about it. Just the other day my brother mentioned how there was only 4 or 5 of us in the whole extended family that still hunted. Fortunately we can hunt a good bit and with dad being 67, we do all we can to make it easy for him to keep getting in the woods. We also recognize the importance of a healthy lifestyle, diet, and exercise...and how not taking care of those aspects can absolutely affect other areas.

Maybe consider your diet and fitness? Aging doesn't necessarily mean we have to give up favorite activities, just that we have to make adjustments in lifestyle to keep enjoying them. Keep hunting...there's fewer and fewer of us every year.

I have a son that was diagnosed with MS two years ago. My wife is a nurse and has been looking at different ways to combat this disease with diet. After a year long study, she found out that cutting out gluten and dairy from our regular eating routine is the answer. We started this about 2 months ago and all I can say is WOW it works. We have lost about 12 pounds each and alot of inches, our energy levels are through the roof and joint pain is gone. It was hard to give up the dairy but we have found great substitutes for everything that we loved. Mainly just eating meat, fruits and veggies and we eat all we want.

Effective a few days ago I cut out the majority of carbohydrates in my diet. No rice, potatoes, bread, flour etc. I have replaced these things with Cauliflower potatoes and vegetable rice. It works fine as a filler but it sucks as a side dish. I got my testosterone preparation today and I added a mile to my daily 3 mile walk. Here goes nothing!!!

Working out, eating right and staying active is the easiest way to make you feel better, it will also naturally raise your testosterone.

Hope you get some answers on low t. I think my levels are starting to drop off. As for a diet, I need to go back on one myself. I was walking almost everyday and that stopped a few months ago when softball got going again for my daughter. Don't know where you are, but I bet some folks are willing to help you out for a few hunts. I would definitely volunteer to help out for a couple meat hunts a year.

Sounds like you got on the low carb high fat diet. Good deal, it's the best.
I do the ketogenic diet, which is the stricter version of that.

Nearly 11 months in;
Off diabetes meds for the first time in what, 10 years?
Testosterone levels back to normal, off those meds also.
Off high cholesterol meds for the first time in over 25 years.
Down 30+ lbs.
Much higher energy.
Diet and lifestyle is the answer friends.
Deer season looking better and better. :super:
