Aging a deer

I know some guys look at teeth wear but I'd like to get a definite age

I have heard you can send a tooth off to get the correct age but I am not familiar with this process.
if someone is I'd appreciate the details on how to go about it.

I haven't used either of these companies but a buddy of mine is wanting to send his bucks teeth off for the cementum annuli analysis....both companies below offer the service. But again, I do not have personal experience with them.

Be forewarned, cementum annuli aging has problems too, especially in the Southwest and Southeast, where summer droughts can cause problems with how age is calculated. Every "aging" process has problems. In the South cementum annuli can give an age that is too old. Toothwear often under-ages deer, especially the older a deer actually is. Aging by body conformation is just an estimate based on average body development which can be affected by many factors. No aging process is accurate except an eartag applied at birth!
