Middle tn public land. food sources would primarily be browse, acorns and soybeans. I'm guessing 6.5. Top front two molars missing on left side, so the wear on the bottom teeth is different.

Very cool. I can tell she hasn't been flossing properly. Wonder how long ago she lost those uppers? The bone has healed in that area really well. She definitely had them at some point because you can see the wear on the opposing lower teeth.
 
Dadgum...might wanna run her through the grinder 3 times. Thanks for posting this, cat. Very good tooth wear reference from which to learn.

the meat ain't all that tough... I haven't eaten any yet but it doesn't seem tougher than most deer (except fawns)

I think she lost the 2 teeth at least a year ago. Pretty noticeable difference in tooth wear on the bottom jaws.

Congrats on an old nanner head catman! They can be just as hard to get as an old buck! ( as you well know ) ;)
 
Very, very difficult deer to age, as the fact she did not produce the normal number of teeth on the left side of her upper palate. This lack of normal left upper tooth development caused her to chew almost exclusively on her right side, greatly increasing the wear on those teeth, while drastically reducing the wear on the lower left teeth.

Without question she's a mature deer, but I don't think she's as old as the excessive wear on the right teeth suggest.

that's my guess with the uneven wear, however you can still see wear on the lower left first teeth where the uppers fell out, so I think she had them at some point, do you agree? If you were just aging the left jawbone, how old would you say? I'm thinking 5.5+ on the left and 6.5+ on the right, but that is just my guess. If you had to put an age guess on her, what's the number?
