I have 2 comments on that....the deer are often older than the teeth indicate. But also, some deer pork up at a young age. I shot a 2.5 year old buck that dressed out at 170#'s. There is no doubt in my mind that he was 2. But also, I've shot yearling bucks that were heavier than 2 year olds shot at the same location. Variation among the species.

Well said pass-thru. Tooth-wear should be looked at as an accurate MINIMUM age. But as pass-thru mentioned, when it comes to body weight, there will be a huge amount of variation between same age deer in the same location, with a huge amount of overlap between the age-classes. A hunter on my place killed a 3 1/2 year-old buck this year that live weighed 225 lbs. Yet my 5 1/2 year-old buck only live weighed 172 lbs. My daughter's 2 1/2 year-old buck live-weighed 168 lbs.
