Age opinions?

Just wanting to hear everyone's opinions. I know summer is a hard time to age deer but just trying to get as good idea as I can.


Buck #1 10pt my thought is 4.5 what say you?

Buck #2 13pt my thought is 2.5 or 3.5 but looks young to me possibly a "tweener". What say you?

Buck # 3 Tall tine 8pt. He doesn't care for the camera much he stays in the background mostly these are the best pics i've got of him.I can't tell if he's 3.5 or 4.5 what say you?

I think your guesses are good, but they're still "guesses". About all that seems certain is they're all 2 1/2 or older, although #1 and #3 look 3 1/2 or older. One of them could be 5 1/2 and look more like a 3 1/2 at this time of year.

Hope you see them in late October or November.

i believe the top buck could be 5.5 because of the 2nd pic. The 2nd buck is going to be a freaking stud man. If he makes it to 5.5 you will be talking about something very special

All three are at least 3 1/2. I feel strongly that #1 and #2 are least 4 1/2 and possibly older. #3 could be 4 1/2, but I would like to see another picture of him in late october (actually, I woukld like to see all of them in late October).

Wow I wouldn't have ever thought # 2 was 4.5 possibly. I thought his neck was to thin and just didn't have the body anything like #1? I can tell you that #1 owns that spot from the pics he's constantly running off all the other bucks but # 2 is the next in line Usually. I know that doesn't necessarily mean ones older than the other. What do you see on him that makes you suspect that he could be 4.5?

I'm guessing BSK is going by the appearance of short legs, muscle tone, chest sagging appearance and all that good stuff. The neck appearing thin is typical of summertime bucks.

I'm not anywere near as smart as BSK so Id wait for his answer though

What Master Chief said. In summer, ignore the neck. The neck won't grow thick until the testosterone really starts pumping, which isn't until about mid-October. Male deer go through massive swings in testosterone production, from virtually emasculated in winter to more than 10 times what a human male has in his system during the rut. This annual swing in male homrmone production causes them to go through huge swings in muscle development.

In summer, the only reliable assessment of age is the depth of the chest in relation to the length of the front legs, as well as body trunk thickness between the front and rear legs. I don't start using neck thickness as a judge of buck age until late October.

They are all worthy of my wall!! Im not good at guessing age but #1 4+, and the others seem to b old enough !
