Im torn about this buck. Pics were from tonight.

Tons of food all last winter and summer this year. Im 80% 3.5, 20% 4.5.

No mass, but a little more muscular than my typical 3.5yos...

Im inclined to believe he's a really healthy 3.5yo, in which case I dont want to shoot him...

But if he is 4.5, I dont think he will blow up next year.

Still nice to have a lot of mainframe 10pt genetics running around and breeding.

I wouldn't be surprised at either 3.5 or 4.5; but I'm curious why you don't think he'll blow up next year? I've seen big changes the following year from both 3.5 and 4.5 year olds.

If he is 3.5, he will improve SIGNIFICANTLY next year. If 4.5, not much next year. ESPECIALLY on this particular property which is managed exclusively to maximize food for deer for past 5 years.

My deer don't really add that much from 4.5 to 5.5 in most cases. I can only think of one buck ever than added 20 inches from 4.5 to 5.5, but then he lost 10 inches from 5.5 to 6.5 when I killed him.

Man I could show a dozen different pictures of the same deer and age guesses would be all over the place depending on angle. On my own places I won't assign an age until/unless I've looked at enough pics & vids to be certain. While sometimes one pic tells the entire story, usually it takes multiple from different angles.
