Aftermarket trigger

Whats a good aftermarket adjustable trigger for a Remington 700? I bought my remington 700 used and someone oiled it to much and gummed up the trigger and saftey mechanism and caused it to get real stiff,and kinda gummed it up,so when you would flip the saftey off,the gun would fire. The gun smith cleaned it up and told me to spray it with WD40 every now and then to keep it from siezeing up again.But the trigger on it is pretty heavy,im not sure of the year it was made,but pretty sure it doesn't have the xmark trigger as its older than that.I've heard good things about jewel triggers,but man they are expensive..Any other reccomendations?

Timney makes a good trigger for about half the price.

There is a recall on the older guns for that very reason......go to the website and look up the recall. I believe they are replacing the mechanisms.

You and did domething wrong,i adjusted mine last night
I followed the directions on a link i think it was called remington crisp or something like that, i have been doing the bolt slam tests and the other tests to make sure it wont fire and i believe i have it set right its a very crisp trigger set at 3.2 lbs and i love it!! But i would for sure call remington and check for the recall

Gonna call Remington and check with them first,then i'll decide which trigger I want..Definatly need something a little lighter.My longer groups always are slightly to the right,and Im guessing that is because me being right handed pulling the hard trigger,im hopeing a lighter trigger pull will stop this problem.

I need to make a correction in my statement, Remington is calling this a "Safety Modification Program" not a "recall". Even though the problem exists and literally thousands of claims of misfires have accured, Remington has managed to dodge the bullet per say on being forced to make it a recall.

From what I see, for $20.00 they will make the necessary "modifications" to your rifle.

The problem evolves around the elimination of the bolt lock feature, allowing the bolt to be opened with the safety on. The new design may allow the rifle to fire accidently if the bolt is opened, closed, the safety is moved on/off.

Never clean a trigger mechanism with WD-40. Only use Zippo lighter fluid and you should fire your gunsmith for not knowing that.
Rifle basics make a good unit but of course the best is Jewell

I do not need a jewell in a hunting rifle, timney or rifle basix
are fine for my hunting rifles.

Target rifle then the jewell is prefered.

I changed out my 700 and ruger m77 with rifle basix's.

my bolt opens with the safety on already on my 700,is it not supposed to do that,never really thought about till you mentioned it.hmmm????

That would indicate it is the newer version rifle, the older models you had to place the safety in the off position to open the bolt.

If your safty is in the rear position, and can lift the bolt you do not have a recalled trigger. I have seen very neglected factory triggers, and they are indeed dangerous. The advise to clean with solvent is a good one. Your trigger, if the one described will fetch 40.00 to 50.00. I really like the factory trigger as I have messed with them so much, it is very easy to get it right.

Please don't use WD to clean your trigger...It doesn't work for everything. Use Remington Action Cleaner or gun scrubber and blast all that excess oil and WD40 out of there.

The safety mod program changes the fire control to where you can lift the bolt with the safety on.

I've not sprayed nothing down in it since he fixed it.He told me to do it about once a year,and just never have,it works fine now,but the triggers alittle heavy is the only reason I wanna aftermarket trigger.
