AEDC Help

Anyone have any advice for areas to scout out at AEDC. Anyone checked the white oaks in the area? Or does anyone know what they planted this year? I'm going over there this weekend bow hunting by myself so the amount of ground I can cover scouting is limited and I also have a draw hunt later this year around thanksgiving. Any info is appreciated.

When you leave the checking station, go left to cross rd go left again, check out area just past big field on right and before it tee's into another road, all of this on the right, took a nice 8 back in 2004 there at 7:30. Blew in on me shot him at 30 yards and he ran a 150 yard circle and pilled up within 50 yards of my buddy. Good luck.

Check out Unit 2 near the Golf Course, always alot of deer in that area. I will be hunting AEDC some this weekend too, going in cold in the morning because I haven't had a chance to scout this year. Good luck!

Make sure to verify unit 2 is open. It is a training area that they can close randomly even if hunting guide says it's open. This will be posted at the check in areas. It's 16000 acres and there is a fair amount of deer there it's just about putting boots on the ground and finding them or finding where the other hunters are not. Acorns were starting to fall last week when I was out there. Some fields were planted in beans and corn.

I live a few minutes from the base and I have been on very few hunts there. Not sure why?? I may go next weekend when I'm off work.

I'm pretty sure unit one is the training area.

Unit 1 is the primary training area and unit 2 is secondary. This is straight from hunting regs.
Unit 2
Same as statewide seasons. The area will be
opened and closed to hunting as military training
allows. Small game hunting is closed during deer
hunts.
Quail - Nov. 7 - Jan. 15.
Deer (Special Regulations) - All deer
hunting season dates are subject to coordination
with military training mission. Hunt dates will
be confirmed a month in advance and advertised
on the TWRA website and posted at the sign-in
stations. Special quota permits will be sold by
REAL systems license agents or on the internet.

Nothing but squirrels here so far, hopefully they will move soon. Did not see many hunters driving in this morning either.

Back in a tree on AEDC this morning in Unit 6. Didn't get on stand until after 8 am due to the rain, hoping they move mid morning since the rain has moved out. Good luck to those still out here with me.

A buddy of mine just texted me that he went by the AEDC Checking Station to see what has been checked in so far this hunt. One doe and a button buck, that's pitiful! I'm thinking now I should have went to Catoosa this weekend, lol. Still haven't seen a deer yet myself.

Yeah I could have shot a 4 point yesterday morning at 15 yards but he wasn't worth the drag or using the bonus buck tag.

I stopped by a little while ago and there had been 4 killed. Three does and a button. That is sad and unusual. I'm sure some of it was due to weather but idk. Tomorrow morning should be good with the low temps.

This is why i quite hunting AEDC several years ago. I recall how high the deer numbers used to be and it's just not worth paying extra for the Type 094 license to sit and watch squirrels.

Well I was able to harvest a doe this evening at AEDC. Shot her around 5:00 and got her on ice quick. Decided to go ahead and head on home since I got her but I was really wanting to stay one more day. None the less, I'm very thankful. The low temps and weather tomorrow should make for a great day hunting. Good luck to all of you headed out to AEDC in the morning!

Ended up seeing 3 does and a 4point buck, 1 coyote, and about 20 turkeys over 3 sits. Was a little disappointing considering the number of deer we seen while scouting but that's why it's called hunting. I will be back out there next weekend.
