Here's the thing: I am coming home from Afghanistan the end of July for a few weeks and want to do a little catfishing. I grew up in Indiana, and did pretty well on the "river" we had there (I called it a river, but compared to the TN river it is a creek, lol). My best back home was a 32 lb flathead.

Any advice on shorefishing for cats on the big rivers down here? Do I fish at the mouths of the creeks that enter the TN river, or am I off on my thinking?

I have been reading about using the cut chicken breasts, gonna give that a try.

Cut the head off of a bluegill, get a 6 or 7/0 circle hook, hook it through the eyes and toss it out with a weight heavy enough to keep it on the bottom. Throw out upstream of a blowdown tree or brush near the bank. Mouths of creeks are also good if there is slack water there. Good luck

Right now, the best time to fish is night, simply becauseoif the heat and if you have any way of finding some big snags on a flat next to some deeper water. It really depends which species of cat your going after. But the best money and time you can spend will be with contour maps to try and find feeder creeks along with deeper water and bends in the river where they wash out and deeper water is found usually along with cover such as big snags.

if chester county is whare your coming back to I would go down to Wilson lake in Alabama. go across wheeler dam and turn right after you cross it and fish off the bank below the dam. we go every year a few times and load the boat below the dam. Stop at the foodland and buy some chicken liver on your way threw and have a blast. We never fished off the bank but a few guys on our lease did back during deer season and was catching the sh!t out of cats. if I still lived in middle Tn I would take you out.
