I'm in the market for a new pistol, and although I have a few, I'm wanting one with higher mag capacity. Caliber would probably be 9mm. I'm not the most savvy semi auto guy but not a slouch either. Any advice or opinions on what you'd think is best? I'm kind of leaning Glock.

I'm not worried about profile or weight as much with this purchase.

Advice??? Don't walk in the door of a gun shop with the idea that it has to be certain brand/model/size. There are many quality guns out there, feel and shoot as many as possible, then make your decision.

A Glock is a fine pistol, but they have never fit me. I loved my XDm, but now have an XD mod2 and love it.

This is sound advice. I am a fairly decent pistol shot but some guns just don't fit my hand. I'm not a glock fan but a glock 19 fits me very well and I can speed shoot one better than any other gun I have ever picked up. My wife has an xd and shoots it very well. I carry a glock 26 or a Smith 642. Find what fits you, make sure your natural point of aol is on and shoot the fire out of it.

Find a gun shop with a range and rental guns, shoot until something fits, 1911 action just works for me, nothing else "feels"right for me, but my first pistol was a Colt SAA so, there's that. :tu:
 
Like every one said, try them all out. Glocks feel like a brick in my hand, I shoot XD's for the last 13 years. They fit me better. A lot of good choices out there.
 
I would handle a Glock first. Most likely you will love it or hate it. This generally seems to be the consensus with most people. If you love it, you would be hard pressed to find a more reliable semi-auto.

If you hate it, handle the others until you find one that really feels good.
 
I have a Springfield XDm 9mm with a 5.25"barrel. It holds 19 in the mag and one in the chamber. Incredibly accurate and I've never had a round hang. I'm pondering adding a Burris Fastfire sight

Yep... and, I really like the XD Mod 2's as well. Been watching the sales, I will be picking up a 9mm soon. With that said, G19's shoot very well for me.

My advice would be to figure out what configuration you want, narrow down choices to shooting a few at Rangemaster or the equivalent. Do you want a manually actuated safety? If no is the answer, a G19 is an awesome choice IMO, if it fits you well. One thing to consider there is whether or not you'll be comfortable with a round in the chamber of your carry that doesn't have a user manually actuated safety. I have a buddy who's carried Glock for years, won't carry a round in the chamber. If you're that guy too, I'd say go for a manual safety gun.. There are lots of great choices these days.
