Advice on Load for Yukon 50 Cal.

I just bought a Yukon 50 Cal. muzzleloader (fitted with basic Traditions scope).

But seller had never shot it, actually knew very little about it.

I would appreciate some advice on what load to start out with... I would really like to use Pyrodex pellets and sabots, if appropriate.

But I have no idea on pellet/powder amount or bullet weight.

Suggestions appreciated.

if its a sidelock loose only,inline? barrel twist/length

Oh mercy... I knew somebody would get over my head. :eek:

Inline, drop-breech... I'm reasonably certain barrel length is 24'', twist: 1 in 28''

Everywhere I've looked the gun is "Out of Stock." I don't know if it's been phased out of manufacture, or if it's such a good gun they all get bought up. :grin:

Loose would definately give you more flexibility as far as working up an accuracy load, but a couple pellets, a sabot, and a .45 xtp should do a number on a deer.

The Yukon I had shot both .452 300g XTPs, .452 250g XTPs very well. It did have a tight bore so I had to use Crush Rib sabots. 80g of 777 seemed to be about the sweet spot. Your results may vary. The only real way to know is to try.

If you're insterested in shooting pellets, then 2 50g pellets of Pyrodex or 777 should work well.

That combo should get you set up for anything under 125yards and do a number on any deer in TN.
