I have had a camera out over some corn on a piece of property that I killed an 8 point on opening day of archery. I have not hunted the propriety since and have been running cameras over corn for a while now to see if there has been any new bucks come move in. Ive only had small bucks and does on the card. Also, corn that I put out is taken twice as long to go through. I guess there just preferring the natural available food source more so than the corn. Neighbors have been seeing bucks but no mature ones on camera. Thinking about giving the spot a go in a few weeks but man I thought I would have more pics of some shooters. Anyone experiencing this?

and yes I placed the last bag out weeks ago so I could hunt this area under correct guidelines/regulations!

I moved my cameras over scrapes about 3 weeks ago and put it on video mode.....UNBELIEVABLE!!! I have never done that before and it is truly amazing. Not sure food is the most important thing on their mind right now but I could be wrong.

corn is not a preferred food when plenty of acorns are available . They will still nibble on it if they stumble up on it , but I don't see them going out of their way to find it right now with so much food .

Just remember the last kernel of corn must be picked up 10 days prior to you hunting it . I'm sure that the way you worded it that you are aware of this , just trying to ensure you have made sure there aren't any kernels at all left .

Thanks Bowhunter appreciate the heads up! Yeah I Im aware of the regulations and the food is already picked through as we speak. Im even going to give it another few weeks to die down and hunt after I get back from the LBL hunt after thanksgiving. I've taken some mature bucks off this property in late December so might just wait till then. I hope there are still cruising around.

My observation is that mature bucks spend relatively little time at the corn during the season. Many deer hunters in Texas, which is the king of corn feeding, will tell you the same thing.

Guess I was perplexed by not having any mature bucks on camera for the past month Ive been running the camera and not been hunting this particular property. The neighbors have been logging but not sure if that would have a major effect on the deer activity.

I have seen MANY instances where older bucks absolutely will not come to corn. I don't know if this is a learned behavior (avoiding illegal bait piles) or not, but this is a common situation. Because you don't have any older bucks on cameras placed over corn doesn't mean older bucks aren't using the area.
