Acorn report?

Has anyone seen acorns yet? There are some red oaks around my
yard, that are loaded with small ones. I assume they will get
bigger before they fall. I guess the rain might help.

I know most areas had a bumper crop of white oak acorns last year
and I was wondering if this might be a red oak year.
 
i aint been lookin but the one tree that i did notice alot of acorns on was a red oak. i might get on the 4wheeler tomorrow and check things out.
 
It looks to be a strong yr for red oaks and white oaks as far as i can tell thus far.
I have looked a good bit and i would rank it up there with last year but with a diff mix since last year red oaks werent much and this year it is gonna be good for white and red.

I havent checked any trees out yet. I will be doing that in the next week or 2. I'm hoping there ARENT alot of white oaks this year. There was a major bumper crop last year at our place and the deer didnt hardly move until November!
 
Seems all the Oaks are loaded this year with acorns.Oh man,I can't stand all this waiting for bowseason!

Yep me too,bumper crop of acorns is good for deer,bad for deer hunters.
 
Me to Just left my property and we are full of oaks but didnt think to look. I guess if ur gonna be dumb u better be tuff. I learn something everytime I go on this site.
 
After having the severe EHD problems of a few years ago we need the heavy nutrition for better healty herds, increased fawn prodution and so on.....
Tough on hunters but not detrimental in my opinion.
 
Saw some bad news this weekend....Acorns are loaded down - red and white oaks. It will probably be like last year.....didnt see any deer in the woods for about 10 hunts in a row due to the mass crop of acorns during bow season. Good for them, but bad for us - Hickman County

I actually have good luck when the trees are loaded,I depend on the acorns to draw them to certain ridgetops I hunt,so yrs like this get me really pumped!

I wish it was like that for us. I wish they were atleast concentrated into certain areas. Our whole 400 acres we own are nothin but the majority of white oaks. Luckily, we have some land leased around ours thats a little easier to hunt in the early season
 
In areas that are loaded with acorns, I might try to find the
thickest area around. Deer don't just stand under a oak tree all
day and gorge themselves on acorns. Also there is the rut. If a
mature buck is on your agenda, they are probably hitting the
acorns at night anyways.

Hunt as close to or even almost in the thickets, as you can. Of
course watch the wind and try to find the best set up to hunt
these "rest" areas, and for mature bucks, breeding areas also.

Be ready and alert, because a deer doesn't have to move but a
few feet, to never be seen again.
