Acorn crop

Anyone else been checking their hard mast crop with binoculars? I looked today and the crop on my place is spotty. Only about half the oaks are carrying, and most are only carrying a few. I did find a few loaded trees, but probably only 1 of 20. And interestingly, I saw a pretty even mix between red and white oaks.

On a scale from 0 to 10, I would give the acorn crop a 3 or 4 in my area.

I have seen a few on white oaks but not much. Reds are touch and go. And chestnut oaks seem to have a decent crop. I would rate about the same as you have.

Ours is in bad shape this year. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 2. All the acorns I have found are on white oaks and they are way undersized. reflex264

No complaints from me. Our deer and turkeys don't utilize half the acorns on the ground during a bumper acorn crop like we had last year so I'm good with a little more stable activity in around the foodplots from time to time.

I looked at several tops that had some in them that logger cut today on my place, mostly Red Oaks

I havent looked in detail at our place in Hickman. I did "look" at a few and there are quite a few acorns, but as far as actual scouting and looking for acorns, I havent done that yet. Will get to that weekend after next. I will let you know then

My small farm seems to be similar. Chestnut oaks are loaded and already dropping. Found a red oak that had sparse mast, already dropping as well. I just started hunting the farm this year and haven't located all oaks, however, so take this for what its worth...

Last year was bad for us and this year we are covered up. Walking up the logging road to the ridge on our property and it is already covered with big acorns on the ground and up in the trees. I also have persimmons dropping large mature fruit. Couldn't find one last year????

In Mt Juliet yesterday,I did notice every persimmon and apple,basically every fruit tree I saw was loaded ,almost to the point of breaking the branches.

Is that in East TN? I was amazed that I saw few Chestnut Oaks carrying on my place. This will be the second year in a row they didn't produce. And normally, they are very regular producers.

Greene co., chestnut's are loaded give them a 7 red's -4, white oaks spotty -3.

Hickory and persimmon, loaded-9, I think alot of trees in hollows didn't bear in our area because of late frost. Our summer has been wet so the mast should do well.

Yes BSK, not far East but around Anderson co. We also can normally count on the Chestnut oaks to produce. Last yr was the first since 07 that we didnt have Chestnut oak acorns on the ground!

Last year's acorn crop unreal in our area. This year, however, is just like BSK described. I would say less than half are carrying and those that are don't have many. Maybe I can find one or two that are loaded and hang a stand there.

I would say a 4 here on my place, but would give persimmons a 8. Also got the first pears on my pear trees this year :)

Just about every White and Red Oak that I have seen have been full. I have been on a pretty rural route around Jefferson County and White Oaks are loaded that I have seen.

Very few that I've seen in northern Morgan and southern Scott County.

My farms in Lincoln and Marshall county are loaded with acorns. Especially the red oaks. Persimmon trees look better than ever.

Yep - those chestnut oaks are usually pretty dependable for me as well. Not as loaded this year, but still carrying nuts.

I know the pin oaks are loaded,but not seeing much on the whiteoaks.

I was at the lease today hanging a lock on stand. That storm that came through last night put some acorns on the ground. Looked good to me.

Rhea and Bledsoe are loaded too. Last year hardly anything.
