This question is for you fellas thats shooting the Accura v2 muzzleloaders. What kind of distance are yall capable of shooting and feel comfortable making the shot on a deer?

Im not impressed this far with the CVA. Compared to my TC Encore IMO, no comparison. I shot 5 or 6 combination using bh209 trying to get good accurant shots. I never found it. CVA accura V2 . I bought the extra breech plug got different primers tried several different bullets but never got consistent groups. Settled with 110grns bh209 with powerbelt 245 grn bullets because i had several packs. Shot a small doe friday did not hit where i shot and although killed the deer did not pass through at 45yrds and took too long to get ghe job done. If you find a good combo please post. Gun looks nice, and suppost to shoot 700 yrds. so they claim but i didnt get good performance at 45yrds. Not giving up. but this gun is much harder to figure out than a Encore.

I have an Optima V2 that I bought back in the Spring. I'm shooting 300gr Barnes MZ Expander over 80 grains of Blackhorn. It't zeroed at 150 yards, 4" high at 100 and 4" low at 200. I feel confident at all those ranges. The reason I zeroed at 150 is for hunting Illinois where I will have some long range possibilities. If I have time I want to go up to 100gr of powder and see if it tightens the group any.
From a simple ballistics standpoint you wont get much past 200 yards with enough energy left for a clean harvest. Maybe 250 yards tops with a very well tested load. People shooting puny weight Powerbelts will find it even more challenging. Anything under about 325gr is tiny for a 50cal projectile. Sectional density sucks and the BC sucks even more. I cant imagine why anyone wanting long range options would even think about using them.
You are kidding yourself if you think a 250gr 50cal bullet shot with enough speed to make a clean kill at 200 yards will hold together at 50yards. Only way that will ever happen is if its made of copper or brass. Its a whole lot easier to achieve with a 300gr 45cal bullet in a sabot.

Powerbelt is copper, although not what I prefer just had three packs that I'd bought and was shooting them in my TC with 130grn. Of BH209 with no problem. I'm going to go with Barnes 300 tmz or mz expanders . I just don't know how much bh209 I can use and still be accurate. I wanna clean kill. If it won't put a small 85lb doe down in its tracks, what's it gonna do on a larger animal. Please if you guys know what shoot best let me know. I'm not gonna get on here and bad mouth your powder or bullet I'm just replying with hopes that someone has already tested the same gun and possibly came up with good loads for deer hunting. Thanks Wiley for the info. Kybowhunter keep me updated on your progress and I'll do the same buddy, we'll get it figured out

Powerbelts are copper jacketed lead core, not solid copper slugs. He's referring to Barnes or similar offerings from Federal or Hornady.

Powerbelts are copper plated soft lead. Not even a real jacket. I can buy 50 300gr DeepCurls for less than a 24 pack of PBs and its twice the quality. Around 110gr of Bh209 behind a 300gr DeepCurl will easily kill out to 200 yards and it wont turn to shrapnel if you get a shot at 50 yards.

A pack of Harvester black sabots will set you back around $6-8 depending on if you need the "smooth" or Crushrib. The short black smooth normally fit the newer CVA bores. Crushribs are better if its too tight.

According to CVA, who actually is owned by the same company who owns powerbelt these bullets aerotip 245 grn. are suppost to shoot well out of the V2. AMAZING! because with everything ive read and watched and experienced powerbelts do not do well in the gun. The only one that says different is CVA :lol: . The one consistent part to the formula is blackhorn 209 with the right breech plug and primer. Now as all have said every gun is different. I just ordered a pack of Barnes TMZ 290grn. and Barnes 250 MZ expanders, a jar of jb lube, which i've heard alot say makes the gun more accurant. Both loads should be pushing or exceeding 2000 fps. with 100 to 120 grns. by volume of blackhorn 209 and have enough energy to kill any medium to large game animal in north america. I like to be confident with any weapon i use, if this doesnt correct the issue I'll just go back to my Encore. I'll post the results.

Expander MZ and TMZ will likely be very tight in a CVA bore. The MZ uses a MMP HPH-12 sabot IIRC. The TEZ uses the HPH-24 which is smaller and about the same loaded OD as the Harvester smooth sabot. Its just longer. TMZ uses a proprietary boattail sabot and they are pretty tight (.506). Even the Harvester yellow for boattails might be tight in a CVA.
So in my accura v2, if not .506 , what is the proper size? Lot of people say use JB lube with it and they shoot best.
JBs is not a lube. Its a bore cleaner and the other JB is a bore polish. Bergara barrels are normally pretty smooth already but JB's Bore Cleaner is a excellent cleaner when used occasionally.
I would use the Harvester Smooth Black for 300gr or less bullets. They call them EZ-Load. Barnes are slightly smaller diameter than other 45cal bullets. The sabots that come with the Barnes T-EZs are virtually the same size but a little longer. Its a HPH-24 just dyed blue instead of black.
Harvester part #H5045SB. If you order directly from Harvester ask them for a sample pack of black crushribs. They will give you a dozen or so free.
