Put down a little to get the ball rolling on my new project rifle I went down to my bossman's favorite gunsmith shop S-N-S silencers in Walls, Mississippi spent the whole day shooting several rifles but ended up putting some down to get him started building me a Suppressed .300 Blackout from and remington 700 donor rifle. That was the quietest and sweetest shooting rifle I believe I have ever shot, so I had to have one!

You getting the factory AAC/ remmy barrel? The light contour ones have been out of stock for a while

with trail boss powder you can get the same results with a 308 as the 300 whisper.

Nah, he uses either douglass or Lija barrels and chambers them himself,

Mr. Big- what kind of load can be worked up for a .308 with trail boss to stay subsonic? Can you load it with enough powder in the case to be safe and still stay subsonic?

I wish PMC was still here,,it seems to me it was the 220 or 240 SMK,,but I would think any 200 gr or heavier would work

Thats something to think about mr. Big thanks for the info, I wonder what twist rate I could look for in a .308 that would handle subsonic 220gr+ loads and still be accurate shooting full power supersonic 168-180's?

You need an 8 twist to stabalize anything 200g and up subsonic in 30 cal, unless you're going with a very long barrel (which would be crazy silly, esp with a can screwed on the end of it)

A 16" 10 twist will have no problem stabalizing the 180gr roundnoses, may have a bit of trouble with high BC boattails.

If I were building from scratch, I'd def use an 8 twist, 16" if planning on mostly using the can, probably 20" if I had plans to shoot a fair amount of supersonic ammo.

Basically, pick your bullet, start with trailboss and work slowly down until you get it around 1050 fps or so through the chrony. Make sure you don't stick a bullet in the barrel or suppressor and blow the gun up with the next shot. Because there are so many differences between individual barrels, you'll have to experiment yourself to find just the right charge to keep you subsonic, but still reliably exit the gun.

No idea what PMC's load was but I shot it at the range one day. I think a bb gun had more sound and recoil. I couldn't believe it.

Yeah I told him to go with a 16" pipe as I will have the can on all the time. I talked to him today he said he has the reamers and will chamber for either one so I have some time to make up my mind.

the 308 is so much more versatile it is a no brainer in my book,,with the powders we have now you can do what you want with sub sonic loads plus have a full house 308,,

For me the benefit of the Blackout is Brass I shoot a ton of .223 so it call pull double duty for rolling my own blackout .308 brass can get a little steep, and second that thing is scary quiet, but I am debating on the .308 like you say it is far more versatile.
