Wished I had taken pics. From what info. Ive gathered it is a parasite called a trematode. Talked to a wildlife officer and he said it was not harmful. Just looking for assurance that others have eaten it and not died. Lol. From what ive read as long as its thoroughly cooked it kills the parasite.Anyone else seen this?

I saw it in some shellcrackers I caught in a farm pond a few years ago. I cut out the iffy parts.

I've seen the white parasites before but not black ones. The white ones I don't even bother picking out. They fry up nice and I'm still alive and my kids have all their fingers and toes.

Had those in my pond years ago, sent a piece to ut/twra. Its a aprasite, not harmful if cooked. We put phosphate bombs in pond to kill/controll the parasite, it worked. It very common in ponds, especially if the pond/lake has alot of vegetation.

I've talked to biologist and they all say as long as it's cooked no parasite can hurt you. No residual effect from them at all. The toxins in some fish such as mercury on the ohter hand will kill you! I tend to eat things like trout because I feel they are safest to eat. Bass as I recall have the most contamination. Many would assume catfish would but not from the warnings I've observed over the years. Always the higher predator fishes that have the warnings first.

Depends on where you are getting your fish from. I am sure trout fresh out of the hatchery are the safest. Personally, any waterway that has an advisory on any fish tells me not to eat any fish out of it.

There is a warning on Bass in Beech Lake, Henderson county, for Mercury I think. I've often wondered about this, because the city of Lexington gets their water supply from the lake. I have eaten lots of yellow perch from there, and have only noticed a slight glow when I turn out the lights to go to bed.
