A site to make you sick

This morning I started fishing and come upon some nets. The guy running them had started running them at daylight but must have had a ton of them out because we could here him fire the boat up and change location for 1 1/2 hours. Then he got to where we could see him. He pulled 3 nets while we watched and left 7 big dead paddlefish floating. He also blue buy me pushing a wake that i really thought was going to come over the side of the boat.

If he averaged 3 nets every 30 minutes Like we observed then and averaged 7 dead paddle fish for each 3 nets he may have killed 25-30 fish this morning in order to get a bunch of buffalo. I understand they can't keep them this time of year but with water temps so high they die of stress anyway.

I say ban all commercial fishing on Tennessee waters.

These guys started checking at daylight but had so many nets it took until 7:45 to get the last one out. They couldn't keep the fish legally so they had no choice but to let them go to waste. But the waste still makes me sick.

I also understand these guys are trying to make a living. But I don't think its right that they can make money from something that belongs to the public. I'm sure I could make money selling deer but they won't sell me a commercial license to kill them. Another thing I hate about this is that TWRA loses money each year on this program and makes up the difference with the fees the sportsmen pay.

I'm sorry for any toes I might be stepping on but today got to me almost bad enough to send pictures to pita and I HATE pita

Welcome to Hillbilly game laws. I'm losing faith in TWRA and the commission to do anything that doesn�t involve raising our license and boat registration prices. I�m sorry to step on toes too but it is what it is. Every branch of our Gov seems to be growing more ineffective every day, unless we�re talking about raising taxes. They�re pretty effective at that.

I don't have anything personal against commercial fishermen. Most of them are good people who are just trying to make a very hard living.

However, the "collateral damage" from their gill nets (dead paddlefish, stripers, etc) gets pretty frustrating.

If they paid their own way and contributed anything to the resource, I'd be more inclined to find a way to work with them. But when sportsmen's license dollars have to subsidize commercial fishing, it's a problem. TWRA doesn't have enough funds as it is, and license dollars have to be used to prop up somebody's commercial fishing business.

If the free market doesn't keep commercial fishing going, I personally don't see any reason to go out of our way to save it.
