A Proposal to be Less Self-Centered

I'd just like to make a proposal that we all be a little less self-centered, and a little more genuinely engaged in seeking whatever might be better ideas for better deer hunting in Tennessee.

This "proposal" is not meant to be any personal "attack" on anyone, nor is it limited to buck limits, weapons, season segments, public lands, private lands, habitat, crops, soils or soiled conversations. I'm talking about all the ideas we attempt to discuss in pursuit of something better, and better for most of us, not just one's self.

This forum remains a great opportunity for us to bounce ideas and thoughts, and ultimately make things better . . . . . . .

I actually got a good chuckle from the title.

And I agree. It's beyond old at this point for me. We should be talking more about ducks, rabbits, etc. On the other forums.

Too little too late...the 2 buck restriction has already passed. ;)
 
All too often people post their feelings which contradict those of others and the firestorms begin. The old adage of "making a mountain out of a molehill" comes to mind. I'm all for making hunting better for all of us but at the same time there's only so much you can do. The constant "let's change this" or "let's be like another state" kind of gets old. Overall, Tn hunting is pretty good as is and fits most hunters' needs. The thing to remember is that none of us individually are "most" hunters yet all of us are.
 
I am guilty of being selfish when it comes to public land and I see non local license plates all over.

One thing that bothers me to no end, and that I see all too often, is people comparing Tennessee to more high profile "big buck" states. We need to be more like them, we'll never compete with them because of brown downers, we need lower limits, antler restrictions, etc... The fact is, Tennessee is a good state for both ends of the spectrum...we produce Boone and Crockett bucks every year but we also have ample opportunity to shoot whatever we want if antler score or age doesn't matter to someone. Herd health is more important than pumping out more bigger bucks each year. I've always said I don't want TN to become recognized as a big buck state because then the tourists increase and our bag limits and seasons decrease and public land only will get worse and worse. Maybe that sounds self centered, but really it's centered toward all Tennesseeans who deer hunt our great state.

Good posts, TN hunting is great and has been improving across the board for many yrs now. We should all be happy with the great hunting and just enjoy it as it is and has been, after all its what makes it TN!
