I did not kill a buck this year. I let several walk. I killed six does, three with my crossbow and three with firearms. I have all I need to eat and got meat for some others who wanted it.

I did not hunt many days this year. May have gone 20 times total and always when the weather suited me. I enjoyed the year tremendously. I enjoyed some frosty mornings and some warm afternoons. I saw a lot of deer. I think I only went twice when I did not see deer. I was covered up with turkeys and squirrels. I saw a coyote, two foxes and part of a bobcat. Sadly, I did not see one black panther.

I missed two shots, ne with a bow,one with my rifle. When I tested it, it was not even on the paper at 100-yards. I have no idea what happened. One day it shot perfectly and killed a deer at 50-yards, next day zip. It is on now.

So it was a good year. Now, I am going to mess with ducks a little and get ready to go fishing.

I may be through deer hunting. It might be time to hang it up. This might be a good year to quit on.
 
hate to hear ur thinking of hanging it up, that would be a hard descision to make for people that love hunting and enjoying the outdoors as much as we do.
 
Well its good you had a good year. I cant complain either although I didnt shoot a buck either (to picky I guess) but my daughter got her first deer and thats worth more than any buck.

Hang it up? Well the good thing is this aint pro sports so if you do "retire" you can always change your mind and go hunt again. Crappie fishing sounds good bout now!
 
We bagged two exceptionally nice 9 pointers and a doe so far on our lease. A member's son shot a doe two days ago as well. There is a 120" or better 8 point walking around too. I'm not done just yet.

Good for the good year. I understand the thoughts about hanging it up. They cross my mind periodically but before season rolls around again I start getting a little rutty for action. I think just one season I'd like to get her done early and lay off for the cold, miserable weather part of the late season when the action slows down considerably. It'd probably do the body good.
 
BW, I am glad you had a good year. I understand the throwin in the towel thing. It's a personal decision that reflects on no one but yourself. I've been out of the hunt now for three years due to misc. reasons. But it really has not bothered me like I thought it would. I have squirrel hunted twice this past season. I have been in the woods in of way or another for the past 35 years. My kids all grew up, friends faded away, and I just didn't have the same drive any more. But...on that same note, I think I will give it a go next year. Bow hunting was always my passion and I have regained that itch. Especially now seeing all these nice bucks, kids smiles, hearing the stories of fun and fellowship among friends. I hope that you have a great new year. Catch lots of fish. And above all still enjoy what God has blessed all of us outdoor lovers.
