Before leaving for Iraq, I got a power of attorney just in case any real land deals came along while I am away, that way my Dad could just buy for me. I have had him looking all over while Ive been gone, places in the Kentucky county just north of me a few miles, places here in Fentress and places in nearby Scott/Morgan counties. He has a knack for finding deals, I guess from his many years in the banking business seeing people that need money badly every day. Today he informed me that I am now the owner of 50 more acres. Its 50 acres of mature forest that is almost nothing but white and red oaks that are of very good timber quality. Its rare to find timber like this at a good price but he got me an absolute steal on it, it would be very easy to get more than I paid for it out of timber. Even though I wont cut all of it right now, it seems as though Im going to have to harvest at least alittle bit of the timber to have some cover and browse for the deer, clear food plots and orchard spots, etc. My new property is located in Sunbright, which is Morgan County, about 20 minutes from my house. I am rather excited because there are so many more deer over there than their is here at home. I grew up hunting on a property that borders the property I just bought and saw more deer in some days than I have all year on my property at home. They dont have the freak monster bucks like home but some nice ones do come out of there every now and then. It will be killer bow hunting for sure, Dad saw a dozen deer while looking the place over this past weekend. The whole backside border 1000 acres of Bowater pines that are about 10 years old and the front borders 300 acres of hardwoods owned by some doctors. I just feel like such a lucky man I tell ya. Looks like Ill have a ton more habitat work on my hands when I get home. Because I mean really, what is a place without apple trees you know?
