So I tried a new farm this morning and had no luck hearing a bird on the roost, so I went to plan B. I drove to my next farm exactly 12 minutes away and upon opening the truck door heard two still gobbling on the roost. Grabbed my gear and took out running. I knew where the birds were roosted and figured they would come into a small clover field I have. Once on the ground not a single peep. I sat and called for 1.5 hours only to have a hen come in and stay with me light calling the entire time. After she finally left I decided to try walking to the other end of the farm and do some light calling just to see what happens. 200 yards later I had a tom gobble back to me. However he was a "mile" away. I started walking towards him stopping a couple times to call to keep his attention. After about the 3-4 sequence of calling he had already cut the distance in half. I found a nice oak and set up. I called a couple more times getting cut off each time. To my amazement I watched him strut down a ridge within 20 yards of me. I was so amazed how this hunt had worked out and the ability of him to change his head color from red to blue to white over and over again I had to just sit and watch him for a minute. After about 5 mins of him strutting back and forth for several minutes I took the shot. I walked over and was admiring him for a few minutes when I was surprised by another tom cutting the distance to me. I leaned the bird against a tree laid my gun across him, just in case green jeans was near by, i didnt want him to think I was going to kill a second bird, and set up once again. I called in a second tom and 3 jakes and was amazed by how awesome a turkey is when answering a call. I watched as they came in and left looking for their mistress.
This was the best hunt I have ever been on. Just thought I would share the morning with others.
God Bless
