Just got on a lease with two others. Been in the making for a while. It's a 10 year lease on 185 acres that my buddy has hunted all his life and has killed several good deer. I'm on the lease with him and one other. He has taken me down there as a guest for the past three years and I have seen some good deer and shot 2 decent eights in three hunts.
We all had a discussion on letting the small ones walk. No exact size restrictions just an understanding we won't kill young deer. Today I let 2 deer walk that we're bigger than anything I have ever killed before. Probably 130's if I had to guess. I was ok with letting them walk. It's just a new one for me usually if its bigger than four points I shoot it. I think over a ten year period of food plots and smart hunting some good deer will be taken by the three of us.

130 sounds like a shooter to me. I use an 8 point rule own my place.

To each his own; whatever you want to do.

Don't let them walk to please someone else though, unless you have rules stating otherwise.

Both know I don't have any 130 or up deer and told me it would be fine to shoot whatever I would be happy with. I enjoyed just watching these bigger deer today. I feel I can learn a little more by watching these instead of getting the scope on them and shooting at first sight.
Now you better believe if I had my bow I would have shot the 10 that came in at 15 yards. The 8 was out of bow range.
It was a little discouraging hearing all the gun fire from the adjoining properties but I'm going to stick with it.

130 plus inch deer is a good deer. Unless the people around you on joining properties are doing the samething, good chance them deer want be around next year ! but you never know.

the biggest deer i have ever seen or killed was in 2008 right at the end of the rut. i rough scored it myself on boone and crockett's website at 134 and some change. it was a 10 point with a small droptine. after that i told myself i would never go back. but i think if i seen a 120 buck i would have to shoot it. just hard to pass on something like that since i rarely see deer that size. And then there's that thought in the back of my head when i hear all the gun shots around me, what are those people killing, and do they feel the same way i do about passing on smaller bucks. Because we all know bucks roam a good distance during the rut. and if they are seeing the same bucks i am are they causing me not to see so many bigger bucks because they shoot anything they see?
