I got some exciting news from my smith yesterday.
He will be working for me today, and will be chambering 4 barrels.

He has 2 new blanks, also I sent him my 6BR 8t to rechamber, and a barrel out of his takeoffs for forming brass.

These will all be 6 Dashers.

I hope to get him to ship asap so I can begin my labor on the brass by this weekend.

I necked up 150 6BR`s last night to 25 caliber so I can false shoulder them when the barrels get here.

These cases had already been turned for the 6BR, as I had my Dasher reamer made with the same neck diameter......... :cool:
 
Bet this is all going to make a dent in the bank account. Sounds like there's going to be a lot of fireforming going on. I wasn't planning on using but 50 brass but when I heard about the nationals being at Oak Ridge this year I prepared another 50. I might take a wild hair and decide to shoot. A lot depends on how the early Spring goes. That fireforming barrel is probably a good idea with a rifle set up for barrel changes. That way the main barrels can just be used for useful practice or competition. I've gotta find a lathe. They're selling out a machine shop in town this week with 4 lathes so you know where I'll be on auction day.
 
That's cool. I'd be as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve! If some kinda National is in Tennessee this year I'd like to go to Oak Ridge as a spectator! What event is it?

Not sure, the rules for heavy class are pretty unlimited, the rifle has to sit on a rest the same as other rifles, so it would depend on how it was made up.
 
Well, good news, I spoke with my smith and 3 of the 4 are done.

Both the new blanks, and the 6BR I sent him. He was worried about the heat checking in the bore on the 6BR, but I told him how few rounds it had down the barrel, he used Dykem all in the chamber before cutting the new Dasher and let me know this morning that I will be very happy with that barrel, it was not nearly as bad as he had thought, the reamer cleaned up everything with .100" to .150" and the throat looked great. The lands were uniform, and was good to go.

He will finish up and ship the middle of next week, as he is heading out for a few days break.

I will be able to send funds so when he gets back he can get the stuff Tennessee bound!!!
